The feed never worked for me, so I'm providing my impressions based off of what I could track on my phone and the final box score. WIU hit a three to go up seven at around the seven-minute mark in the first half, and they never looked back. The game was over. We shot poorly, got embarrassed on the glass, and WIU lit up the scoreboard. In fact, they tied their previous season high for points. I don't think we can simply chalk that up to bad luck. See Morehead State and Youngstown State. We must improve defensively. As I mentioned in the IPFW thread, this team must improve each and every game in the lead up to the Summit League Tournament. A conference title would be a nice byproduct of that effort, but I'm not counting on it. We're too unstable on the road. This Summit League field is wide open. Denver went in to Omaha last night and took care of the Mavs in much the same fashion WIU took care of us, i.e., they distanced themselves in the first half and stomped on the accelerator. That Omaha team just put the Jacks away comfortably in Brookings. Let's make it two Mav losses in a row Saturday. Go Yotes!

How can a team be so bad on the road? That game was terrible. I liked that Thoseby continued to contribute, and Flack didn't draw any fouls in 25 minutes, but the rest was just awful. We'll never accomplish anything if we can't win games like this one. Allowing 79 points to WIU in regulation might be just as bad as giving up 120 to Morehead.

What stood out to me from a stat perspective, and what has stood out in nearly all of our loses, was the vast discrepancy in the rebounding numbers. When we win on the boards, we have won the game.

These road woes are rooted in between the ears, not unlike what we've seen with our football team. Every Summit League road victory is a steal as far as I'm concerned. Maybe with the exception of IUPUI, we're not "supposed to" win on the road. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't at least be in a position to win most nights. What troubles me most about these types of games is that we're dead in the water before halftime. Conference championship-caliber teams rarely let that happen. We need to alter our identity -- gain that toughness and edge indispensable to road success.
