7:27 to go USD leads 57-55. Back and forth game with USD just staying ahead by the slimmest of margins. Luckily the Coyotes have plenty of experience in close games down the stretch.

And the Yotes have won two in a row on the road, matching the total for all of last year.

Coyotes win it by 3. Don't remember the final score off hand. Good composure down the stretch as Northridge tried to make a desperate comeback.

68-65 was the final. Tyler Larson was 5-5 from the field with 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Kasperbauer had 25 points (7-11 from 3pt) and 7 rebounds himself!
You can officially call it a WINNING STREAK!

Craig Smith's post game comments
>>> great team effort, Casey sparked the team, Matadors were athletic and exploded to the rim, we made some big time plays down the stretch, missed some 1 and 1's at the end, team kept poise and got stop after stop at the end, We really believe in Casey, he has a high basketball IQ, our guys have a great feel for the game, great game and great win to go back to back on the road, just like a conference type road trip with 2 games in 3 days, talked about fouling again being up by 3 at the end of game, the goal was to wait until there was 6 seconds or less to foul, didn't have to foul as there was a steal instead, E-Rob had a great weekend, he guarded a good player and was fighting and scratching against him, 3-5 and going home against Youngstown State, Smith was thinking last night that they had 6 games, 4 practices and 2 off days in the past several day, likes the competitive spirit of his guys and can't wait to get back to the dome, 3AM wakeup call tomorrow, awsome start of the week for the Yotes <<<

Watched it almost start to finish. CSUN is a big, athletic team. They've struggled out of the gates, but they'll win some games this year. Picked third in the Big West.
Coach Theus' comments after the game: “(South Dakota) outscrapped our guys, they outfought them and they outrebounded us,” Theus said. “We had a whole bunch of guys not show up and we let a team come in (and) beat you that shouldn’t beat you.”
I think Theus' assessment is fair. From a purely physical standpoint, there is no way USD should out rebound Northridge. They play above the rim; we play below it. But we played hungrier and with tons of poise and confidence. I still go a bit crazy seeing missed free throws and some really hopeless drives to the basket (draw the contact if the layup hasn't a prayer), but this game was otherwise really enjoyable to watch as a fan. We have a gritty team with a strong nucleus. Just need to figure out where the other pieces fit.

I agree CSUN was way more athletic and on talent alone should have won. The difference this year has been our guys never quit approach and hussle. Its nice to see us succeeding at the things we can control like effort and attitutde. I took a couple things away last night. 1)Hunter (our only big man) is not very good. needs to be there for a defensive presence only do not work the offense through him. 2)Trey Norris is a great ball handler but never let him shoot free throws when trying to ice a game again. 2 games now where one he lost the game by missing 2 free throws and last night he could have by missing on the first of a 1&1 at the end if CSUN wouldnt have capatalized. 3)Because of our lack of size our defense is horrible and there is no fixing that with teams that are bigger than us (which is pretty much every team in the NCAAA). If we do not hit our 3's and outscore a team we are not going to win unless the othe team makes a lot of mistakes.
I'm not sure how we can make the offense flow any better. 6 games in now and its starting to worry me a little bit as Larson is really the only threat to drive the ball and with no inside game to work thats scary.

You cannot fix talent in one year. That is recruiting and will take a couple seasons. Smith & Co. did a dine job bringing in some guys to plug some holes this year, but the next two recruiting classes will define Smith's initial tenure at USD.

I agree Cousin Eddie. In my eyes Smith is over achieving with what he has on the floor right now. He is doing much better than I thought this team would be especially without Flack. If Flack was playing I beleive it would have been enough to get them 2 if not 3 wins in those earlier close games and we would be sitting at 5-3 or even 6-2. I have tons of faith in the future of the program and the recruits he already pulled in and know getting him was the right move at this time. We will just have to battle through this year. Hopefully they smoke YSU Friday and it will put my negative thoughts to bed.

I think a win over YSU would be huge for the confidence of this team. YSU isn't a powerhouse, but they are a peer of sorts, and that has merit.
They are 4-4 with wins against Longwood, UNCG, UMKC and Robert Morris. Losses are to Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Illinois State and Kent State.
Key contributors are:
Keene 5-11; 18.7ppg; 3rpg Hain 6-10; 14.4; 7.6 Amiker 6-5; 12.9; 7.0 Cole 5-11; 8.6; 2.7 Plummer 6-5; 5.9; 3.7
Stewart 6-0; 5.0; 2.6 Larson 6-8; 3.2; 0.9 Umude 6-7; 2.1; 2.4 Vaughn 6-4; 1.3; 1.1

Great road wins! Not having flack has hurt this team on the inside. We need to sign some guards because once Bos and Larsen graduate there's not much left for scoring. I thought we brought in 8 new players? I believe a few are sitting out but the ones that are playing don't contribute much, not seeing the talent there. Onward to Youngstown!

Casey K. is playing at a higher level. Tre Burnette can score, and DJ Davis has a lot of potential, both of whom will probably help later this season and next. There's only one ball, so naturally Larson, Bos will get a lot of the shots, as they should. Agree that missing Flack is huge. Any updates on his return? I heard the CSUN announcers saying that they were told that USD was hoping to have Flack back by the time Conference play begins. I hope so! Recruiting will be important next year and especially for the following season.
