Mick was asked about the Coyotes chances of winning the Summit League (or something to that effect) and here was his answer.
"I think they'll contend again. I don't know that Seekamp's return assures them of any more than that. As good as she is, SDSU is going to be very good again, too".
To me this has completely negative undertones to it. This is basically saying that the Coyotes will be good but not as good as the Jacks. Whether it's true or not this is always the types of answers that Mick gives when it comes to the Coyotes. It's always a "yeah but" with him. How about this Mick. why don't you say something like this "The Jacks have quite the team coming back next year but Nicole is the kind of difference maker that you just don't find very often. With her presence in the lineup the whole team will be better and I just don't see much of a dropoff in the Coyotes team for next year. The Coyotes have a promising recruiting class coming in so I would have to say that the Coyotes don't take a bask seat to anyone in the Summit League". Now that is the way to answer a question that has positive overtones to it and one that would be more typical of the kind of an answer you would get out of Zimmer or Vandrovec. You would think he would have just one ounce of "like" for the Coyotes since he covers them but I really doubt it. He talks about having to go to Vermillion twice a week like it's a major inconvenience for him which it probably is. If he was covering the Jacks he would love the ride to Brookings twice a week. for once Mick show that you actually enjoy covering the Coyotes.

You knew the topic header when you opened it up, if you don't want to read it that is up to you but don't complain about too many posts on a message board that has issues with not having enough discussion in general.

I'm enjoying the Coyote board a lot more since I don't read any "coyote fan" posts. Everyone needs to try it. He just craves attention.

The beat writer from the biggest paper in SD assigned to cover our team is just so pessimistic. The Argus is paying to have someone on staff to cover the Yotes, you would think they would want someone who at least pretends to be a fan of the team.

Slow down boys, I read the chat and all he was saying- is slow down, don't crown them the champs of the league just yet. He said they will contend...Last time I checked he is right, SDSU is going to be very good again. So will the Coyotes, get over it.

Is he pessimistic or just honest? Nearly everything that he writes is correct. People on hear don't want a beat writer, they want a cheerleader like TV was for SDSU.

CE--The point is I don't read ANY of CFs posts any more so I have no idea what he says. I like it better that way!

As far as MG is concerned he seems almost uninterested in the Coyotes. He doesn't need to be a cheer leader but could be interested and MOTIVATED! If I was his boss he would be or he'd be doing something else for a living. Goes back to my USD days it was the Argus Loser not just because of sports but overall quality in particular.

Thats fine if Mick wants coyotefans to slow down and not crown ourselves champ already. But Mick is pretty much doing that with the Jacks with all of his comments. Why are they being crowned already by our beat writer? This entire season not once did Mick ever say the yotes were the team to beat or the favorite. Or the better team when they did win the conference championship. I'm sure he didnt think it would happen once the yotes grabbed at least a share going into the last game with western illinois. He can be honest but he goes far beyond that with most of his comments and his attitudes.

Maybe pessimistic isn't the best word, but if he is looking to win fans over he should do a little more to appeal to us. Have some optimism! Even if you think the team you're covering is going to finish in second, go on ahead and state why they could and should finish first. Mick just has zero enthusiasm for the Yotes and it shines through in his pieces.

MG's quality of work with the Coyotes is probably prime example why he is still at the Argus and hasn't been able to move his career forward. To me, he epitomizes the Argus Leader as a whole. They want to be a big town paper, yet their writing is of a small town paper. The P&D does a great job covering USD. The Sioux City Journal does a decent job too. The Argus is the Argus.
