This should come to no surprise to anyone. I am proud of our university and our programs but dislike the comparison against our athletic peers. A quick recap of our MVFC peers:
U of Northern Iowa Southern Illinois Western Illinois Illinois State Indiana State North Dakota State South Dakota State Missouri State Youngstown State
I would be appalled if The University of South Dakota, a flagship university possessing both a medical and law school, did not beat out a bunch of regional schools and more vocationally inclined state universities. Call me pompous, but we have bigger fish to fry.

I wasn't saying I was surprised, just thought it was somewhat interesting.

It's always good to get noticed in the Forbes' of the world. I agree that it's no big deal in comparison to the MVFC schools, but we are with few peers in the upper mid west with a reasonable amount of national recognition. Yes, we do have bigger fish to fry, ONWARD SOUTH DAKOTA.
I also have no doubt that we are building an athletics program worthy of our high standing. We are South Dakota!

I'd hope it would help with recruiting...

As in recruiting for school enrollment? Easy, just let anybody into the school and enrollment will shoot up, just ask SDSU. I believe their acceptance rate is like 98%. Of course, implementing that strategy is a good way to drive the school down in these types of rankings.

The acceptance rate at USD for undergraduate studies is something like 92%, it isn't hard to get into either school at that level. The real difference is in the graduate programs. I can't imagine they have nearly the number of insanely competitive programs we do.

No...if you need to convince a player or mom why to go to USD vs. another school, you say we are a better academic school. Just ask the respected authority, Forbes. WTF? This isn't rocket science. It is low hanging fruit.

There is no doubt that The University of South Dakota is the number one school for educational opportunities in South Dakota--law, medicine, business, education, arts, etc, etc, etc. And you're right Cousin Eddie that it should be a no brainer for student athletes and their families as to where they attend school for a variety of educational opportunities. Obviously for any school in the country only a very, very small minority of student athletes will ever become a pro so the educational degree they earn is the most thing they will have to start them on the road to a successful career. Go South Dakota!!!

I could argue that a degree in Engineering is more valuable in this modern world. Demand for quality engineers is high and the pay is as well. There is a distinct line in this state as to where you go to school depending on what you want to pursue a career in.

By far and away the best engineering school in the state is the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.

By far and away the best engineering school in the state is the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Very impressive programs at SDSMT. I always recommend it to anyone interested in engineering. Higher admission standards, intensive curriculum, graduates on average have a higher starting salary than Harvard grads and at a great price in a beautiful location.

Better read the latest issue of Forbes again. On that same cover is the heading: "You don't have to code to get rich. How liberal arts grads are conquering Silicon Valley".
That said, one of my kids is an engineering grad from Mines.
Bottom line: your two best bets for a college degree in SD? Either Mines or the University in my opinion.

School of Mines was exactly who I was thinking of, when I mentioned USD's few peers in the upper Mid West.
I like their school, and also enjoyed the natural setting of their football stadium. Haven't been out there in awhile, though.
