Agenda Item 4-G from the SD Board of Regents meetings on October 7 & 8
" In the coming weeks, a system-level Alcohol Sales Task Force will look at proposed changes to state law that would permit the sale of alcoholic beverages on campuses. The task force is expected to bring its recommendations to the Board’s December meeting. Subject to the task force’s final report, legislation may be advanced to authorize BOR governed institutions to obtain and operate under on-sale alcohol licenses and special event alcohol on- and off-sale permits, in order to improve service, control, attendance, and revenue generation at institutional events for the benefit of university programming and operational enhancements."
Sure looks like they are exploring allowing for beer/alcohol sales at football and basketball games.

The narrow Dome concourse would result in many spilled beers with people bumping into each other haha. If they were to begin alcohol sales here I would hope they keep the free re-entry at halftime so that I may drink my halftime brew in the parking lot and not pay five bucks for a Bud Light.

I may be in the minority with this but I wish alcohol would be banned at all sporting events especially on college campuses but alcohol is so much a part of society that it will never happen.

I'm with Yotes on this. I don't want beer sold inside the stadium, that would mean there would be no halftime passes in/out of the Dome. They would for sure take that away. I'm sorry, but these last few years I have not been able to stay inside at halftime, I need a break. I don't think the ability to have a beer or two will effect attendance or revenuw one bit. I hope they keep it as is.

I see it both ways. I would lean with Yote 53 on this if that's the general feeling

volanteonline.com/2015/12/32438/Here's a more recent article on the topic. Looks like the task force is going to take some time to do research on other schools that have some form of alcohol sales at events. Sounds like a smart way to approach it. There's no hurry. I will say, though, that if you guys think this will not generate revenue, you are mistaken. They will make money, no question. That's why Herbster is in favor of it. IMO it will increase attendance as well, although that is just my opinion. It will be interesting to see the research when they have it done. I doubt that it will negatively or positively affect the level of intoxication at sporting events. People who feel they need to be wasted will find a way to do that. People who want to have a couple of beers will find a way to do that. This would just allow for less hassle for those of us that would like a beer or two at the game, and don't want to have to leave the game to do so.

Looks like the option is going to be there to sell alcohol on campus starting in July, with some as-yet to be defined stipulations. Interesting that SDSU were the ones pushing for this. From the sound of it, they are mostly concerned with alcohol in the luxury boxes. Not so much for general seating. Individual schools and cities can choose not to do it, but I have a feeling this is exactly what Abbot and Herbster were hoping to see happen. So the Jacks fix the alcohol rules, and the Yotes fix the coach's contract rules. Who cares which school, cause I like it either way. When I go to the BB and football games this fall, this will be an added amenity.

Not at all surprised SDSU is the one pushing this. It would have to be either them or us and I haven't heard too much on our end in terms of support for this.

"...restricts the beverage sales to premium seating at student athletic events." Any idea what this means? Is premium seating box seats and court-side seats?

I am guessing it means non-student tickets.

Interesting development. It will be interesting to see some statistics nationwide on this trend. It has taken place at a variety of schools now.

We don't need this at USD. I'd be against it.
