First thing I thought was "eh." It is ok, nothing bad or great. 4.5/10.

It's surely been a long logo battle at UND, don't wish this on any U. The Fighting Hawk is slowly becoming more popluar, I for one was not for the change, but have accepted it, even bought some Hawk stuff. Hope to have a great game in SD this year and looking forward to the MVFC and the Summit.

Fighting Hawks is a terrible nickname. Completely lame. Don't try to sugarcoat it and say you are warming up to it because it is one of the most generic, lame, turd of a nickname you guys could have come up with. The only thing worse could have been a color.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_college_team_nicknames_in_the_United_StatesHere's Wikipedia's list of college and university mascots. According to this list, here are the most commonly used mascot names: 1. Eagles (76) 2. Tigers (46) 3. Bulldogs (40) 4. Panthers (33) 5. Knights (32) 6. Lions (32) 7. Bears (30) 8. Hawks (28)9. Pioneers (28) 10. Cougars (27) 11. Warriors (27) 12. Wildcats (27) So, yup. pretty generic. At least they didn't go with "Fighting Eagles"?

By comparison only 3 have Coyotes besides South Dakota--California State, Idaho & Kansas Wesleyan.

Generic, boring name, but not outright stupid like a rabbit.

Crow would be more like it. They have sure eaten a lot of it since they moved up.

One of UNDs primary objections during their 3 year hissy fit over the other Dakota schools moving to D1 and trying to block NDSUS move altogether, was the local kids would be left out because they weren’t good enough to play at that level. Unfortunately their football/basketball programs are so bad they were a self-fulfilling prophecy and no local kids have been successful. Now they have to travel far to find anyone to play for them.
UND should be as much fun in the Summit as they will be in the MVFC. SDSU boat raced them by about 30 last night following another rought at the hands of the Bison a few days earlier.

I think the thing that I will enjoy most about the "Fighting Hawks" rejoining the Dakota 4 is the acrimony it will generate in Fargo. Rivalries are part of what makes college athletics fun, and as much as the Bizun like to downplay UND's affect on them, it's clear that feathers have been ruffled. Game on.
