Wow it's 80-58 Dons. This isn't much better than what happened in Fort Wayne. The defense once again decided to go somewhere other than on the Dakota Dome hardwood. Landis now has 9 threes. I have been silent until now but I am getting pretty pissed off with Craig Smith right now. I am in support of him but I think right now it's fair game to question what the hell he is doing with this team. I wonder if there is some kind of dissension within the team right now. It's like night and day between conference and non conference how the Yotes are playing. Yote Fans maybe it's time to start asking some questions and throwing out some ideas with what is going on right now. Coach Gata! has the worst defense in the league. Might be time to extend him to a multi-year contract

46-40 IPFW at the half. Max Landis has 24 total points with six 3 pointers. He was their most dangerous player coming in so I wonder why the Coyotes aren't doing a better job on him. The Coyotes Live video isn't working tonight so far. Fort Wayne has lead the entire half so far or at least have since very early in the game. Most of the shots Landis hit tonight, he had someone with a hand in his face. He is by far the best shooter I have seen play in the dome in the D1 era. Hard to defend someone who is that on. With that being said, the Coyotes are lacking some on court leadership. There is really no one who can step in when things are going bad and get them back on track. Or, someone who can stay level headed when things are going well. At this level, a true floor general is what is needed to be successful over the course of the season. Casey tries; Trey tries but there is no consistency with either of those guys.

I read in Mick Garry's game recap that Shy McClelland was suspended indefinitely for reasons that coach Smith would not disclose. Interesting and makes ya wonder if their is some dissension within the team. I can't really explain any other logical reason for this slump. I could understand a lack of talent or getting new players acclimated to the D1 game but this drop off in performance is something other than a team that was over achieving suddenly coming back to earth. Teams don't just fall off a cliff like the Yotes did mid season. If it was a player issue or an experience issue the Coyotes would have probably started to improve throughout the year instead of regressing.
I hope this is not a Craig Smith issue but rather a player issue. I lean towards it being a player or chemistry issue but if Craig Smith is over his head as a coach (which I don't think is the case at this point) than the program is in trouble. I can write off this season to a point as being a rebuilding season but only to a point because this season and how it has unfolded seems to be more than just a rebuilding issue. Next year is probably going to start to show us what kind of a coach Smith will end up being. I am hoping Craig Smith is the right guy but I can't say any longer that notion is without a shadow of a doubt even if it is just a sliver of doubt. He has to hold at least a little accountability for what is going down.

Really doesn't take much. Surprised our first loss of the season didn't result in fire Craig Smith posts.

Really doesn't take much. Surprised our first loss of the season didn't result in fire Craig Smith posts. No one is saying anything about firing Smith but to ignore that he is not doing a very good job with this team is also ignoring reality. Of course this team may very well bounce back but doesn't anyone but me find this just a tad disturbing. The team is not only losing now, they are barely even competitive lately. The last 3 straight games the Yotes were pretty much hopelessly out of the game with about 7:00 to go in each of them. Things are not actually getting better but still rolling downhill.

Pay any attention and you will see people making comments about how the team is playing poorly, uninspired, and is not competitive. You just always take it to a whole other level that transcends reason and I feel the need to point it out.

It's Year 2. We all knew it would be down and that there is a lot of ammo in the chamber for the coming years. If this was Year 4 there would be more cause for concern. As it is, nobody should be surprised at what is happening.
