oh snap, even coyotefan is getting excited. watch out now. I have been a major proponent for years of the need for a basketball facility. I am so glad 3 years ago that the administration decided that the athletic department could wait no longer. Sayler basically turned a project that was 10-20 years down the pipeline and made it a major priority and good for him for that. I realize I am critical of alot but I am very happy with what has gone on recently with the athletic department. From the coaching hirings, to the facility upgrades and to the dedication to give the Coyotes home court advantage for most of the WNIT. We have some ground to make up on some of the peers but I think that ground has started to begin to shink and hopefully shrink drastically. The photos of the arena look better on camera than the renderings before the project broke ground. I love the Coyotes first and foremost but tonight Go Villanova!

Yes, go "Nova.
Just wondered with all this talk about the last BB game in the dome, can anyone refresh my memory as to the capacity of the new BB arena?
I was wondering because if we were to fast forward one year and say we are in the same situation with the WNIT as this year: would we still have been able to bid for home court based upon facility capacity? The dome held about 7,400 fans for the finals. What could have we expected in the new facility?
Thanks for any reply.

That's a question worth asking. We did get the bids for Oregon, Western Kentucky, UNI and Creighton with crowds that would not have sold out the arena.

Good point.
Somewhere down the road I hope we can worry (complain?) a bit about the lack of seating in the new facility.

If the arena gets to a point of being sold out maybe they'll sell $5 tickets to watch the game on the big new videoboard in the dome

Or just charge more for tickets to games that are in high demand so as to maximize revenue.

Good point. Somewhere down the road I hope we can worry (complain?) a bit about the lack of seating in the new facility. I agree. I think 6K is absolutely the perfect size of an arena for us right now. Over the last three years our average Men's BB attendance is around 1,800 with the SDSU game bringing around 4,800. For the Women, the average is around 1,500 with the SDSU game bringing 3,500. I would assume a little higher numbers with the excitement of the new arena, but there is plenty of room for our fan base to grow into that venue without being too big. We should be selling out the rivalry games anyway.

Guess 6,000 in attendance isn't going to happen very soon given the figures you provided...

I had my first visit to the SCSC and really liked it in there. The first thing I noticed was how bright it was inside. Well lit and a lot of red which is nice. The place definitely is nice on the eyes. It seems more like a 3,000 seat arena then a 6 thousand seater as that is how much of an intimate feel it has. Even with a crowd at a Volleyball game of only about 500 or so it didn't really feel like a spacious facility with a alot of empty space. They built this thing very nicely for noise and for a comfy feel. It seemed loud in there for only have it about one-tenth full. I heard that the sound system wasn't very good but I didn't seem to notice any real problems with it personally. I would have never put that on my list for criticisms. I really liked the intro where they dimmed the lights. That is something that wasn't done in the dome. I have been critical of how the court looks but it didn't seem as bad in person. I still wish they would put white or red filled in between the lane and the three point arc instead of the wood color. My only slight criticism is that the stands behind the player benches and scorers table don't have as steep of a pitch as I would like. It would be nicer to be higher and closer rather than lower and farther. It seemed the the side of the court on top of the Corr Trust Club area has a little steeper pitch but maybe that is a poor observation on my part. It just seemed that way. I really like the low ceiling and to me the cracker box sound effect is a benefit I would gladly take even if that means that a center hung scoreboard can't be used. I also like the ribbon video strip that runs all the way around the arena. That is an effect that newer arenas seem to have these days. I can see how everyone says that there is not a bad seat in the house because when I walked around I had the same general observation. Overall the arena gets an A for me for a grade. If it was a little steeper it would get an A+. They definitely built the thing in a clever fashion to make it look intimate, comfortable, new looking and most of all with tons of potential to be loud.
For Volleyball the Coyotes may have gone from the worst Volleyball setup in all of college sports to likely the best setup in the Summit League and one of the best in the country. For basketball this is going to be huge. The cavernous dome was just an emotion killer for the hoops teams. Now with quite the opposite the Coyotes should have a great home court advantage. Can't wait to see some hoops there later in the season.
Props for everyone from donors to fans to businesses (especially Sanford Health) for making this thing happen about 10 to 20 years sooner than if the admin had a say before Sayler and Herbster were in town. This facility is a godsend to USD athletics and as I fan I want to thank whoever is responsible for making this a reality and building it as nice as it is.

The sound system sounded completely different in the arena tonight than it did at the first volleyball game of the year. Huge improvement.

The PA microphone wasn't synced to the sound system for the first game. Once it was synced the problem was fixed.

Overall the arena gets an A for me for a grade. If it was a little steeper it would get an A+. That's all I need to hear to get me pumped about the new arena. CF is probably the hardest-to-please fan on this board. If all he can come up with for criticism is the steepness of the stands, it must be pretty awesome in there.

Well so far as amazing as this new facility is it doesn't appear that we are seeing an attendance spike for Men's or Women's basketball. If the basketball grand opening double header isn't enough to excite the fan base I really don't know what else will. There should have been 3K minumum at the opener. Maybe it takes success of an extreme nature or a game with SDSU to fill this new place. The honeymoon voyage of this new arena isn't nearly what many of us thought it would be. Once the first double header happens on a Saturday if the attendance is still not the best than it might be that having an awesome facility for watching a game will not do the trick for the USD fan base. At this point USD has done it's job, now it is time for the fan base to step up.
Come on Man !!!
