Who said anything about robodialing? I am talking about calling people that have already been to a game and not using a dialer or an automated call. Real voices, which would maybe be a good work study job. So let me understand, it is ok for the University to call trying to solicit donations to their school, but it is not ok for a call just simply welcoming a a fan that has already been to a past game to come back to a game. I am not talking about soliciting howling pack donations or selling anything. Just simply letting them know about a game or future games. Nothing at all about selling unless the person that answers brings up wanting to buy a ticket or something. To me that is kind of a personal touch that is a good thing and not a bad thing. Has anyone ever heard of killing with kindness. That tends to work on a lot of people. I'm guessing I'm not the only person that has the foundation number that calls for donation blocked. Bastards started calling from restricted numbers (unblockable) to prevent people from doing just that. I like where your head is at though. A great way to do that for younger people is through Snapchat but most of our fans probably don't even know what Snapchat is. You know maybe the last time they tried calling it was for a "pay it forward" moment. Since they have accepted so many donations from their alumni they kind of thought maybe it was time they gave back. I am sure they were calling to make a friendly donation to your bank account for all that you have done for them much like in the past when they were expecting your bank account to make a donation to them. I think any topic that talks about increasing general interest in the athletic programs is a good discussion to have.

Couple more questions for our group:
1. Marketing has been noted - Do we ask the marketing department to do online ads like Augie is doing for BB? Or do we as a collective fanboard do our own?
2. For alumni/fan engagement, what can this fanboard do? A SB Nation site? (Like TheDailyGopher.com or blackhartgoldpants.com) Would people feel more connected if they knew this community existed?
3. Ticket prices - We all understand that D1 is more expensive, but pricing decisions are tricky, and just charging more isn't always the answer. So, who do we want to target? For weeknight games, target seniors with $5 senior prices? For Saturday afternoons, target families with $5 (or free) tickets for kids under 14? We need to match the pricing plan with the target audience.
4. Quick suggestion - watch the camera angles for the next game you don't attend. We want all the seats that are in a typical screen shot to be filled - I'm guessing the first 5 rows or so behind the benches, maybe others? How about we start a 'movement' where everyone moves (and expects to move) to those seats if they are open. It will give the appearance on TV of a bigger crowd, and thus more excitement. Major league sports have been doing something like this for years.

It has been mentioned here that the non-conference home schedule generally has a lower attendence. I decided to take a look at the numbers, and generally speaking that is true. Here is a comparison of the last 5 seasons of Women's basketball non-conference home attendence:
2012: 754 2013: 1124 2014: 1289 2015: 1572 2016: 1559
A huge trend upward in A. Williams's tenure. Although we were slightly down this year, I would argue that last year had more expectations and hype preseason with all the seniors, plus the non-con was a bigger draw with Marquette, Drake and Washington. Plus 1,500 in "The Den" has a better feel than 1,500 in the Dome.
I'll take a look at the men and V-Ball too....

Though it's difficult to gauge with the eye test how many have been at the SCSC compared to the Dome, attendance has seemed lower. What a shame.

Men's BB non-conf ave. home attendance:
2012: 1377 2013: 1355 2014: 1337 2015: 1563 2016: 1779
there's an upward trend for the last 3 years. That's at least encouraging. Winning helps. This is the sport that we need to start filling up "The Den" IMO

VBall average home attendance: (only 3 years available on the website)
2014 321 2015 243 2016 851
We knew this number would increase, and I think a combination of their championship season and the new arena really helped. This number puts us in the top 2 or 3 in the conference, but I think we can do even better next year.

Yesterday's Conference opener for WBB against Denver drew 1,624. Better than the non-conference, but still a little below our average home attendance the last couple of years.
The New Years eve rivalry game with State this weekend has already sold about 2,800 by my count (864 students, about 50 shy of a sellout). Should be a good atmosphere! That's pretty good considering the men play in Brookings the same day...... dumb scheduling.

If they would have done the double header at the same venue, you'd see bigger attendance numbers for BOTH games, IMO. Plus, it reduces travel costs. (for teams that have to travel farther) That would make too much sense, though.

When estimating potential attendance be sure to subtract a few hundred for the masses of season ticket holders that don't seem to go to any games.

Yeah, I'm only looking at "official" attendance, of course. It would be interesting to see the "actual" attendance, but I doubt the Athletic Dept. would provide that. It really is puzzling what is going on with the season ticket no-shows. I'm still not sure why people don't just move down into those seats. It really looks bad on the broadcast. Maybe the Athletic Dept should do something to either encourage the ticket holders to show up, or encourage the others to go ahead and move forward once the game starts. Can anyone with contacts in the AD's office at least inquire about this?

Honestly, I think the seats from row 5-10 are the best seats in the place rather than the first few rows. Looks like less people from the floor cam when the first few rows are empty, but that is also due to a lack of overall attendance.

I am pretty sure last year we had something similar going on? Because I remember having this convo then too. Mindblowing that this is so hard to get right.
