Predictably, no article from the Argus. One blip from KDLT and that's it. Oh well. I guess we will have to beat every team in the league before we get some air time from the Sioux Falls media. I tried to find articles on USD Volleyball in the Argus, and I found a bunch of them at the end of August because of the new arena, but nothing for the past two weeks. That's the reason I watch KDLT and not KSFY or KELO. KDLT usually covers USD soccer, volleyball, and football very well. The other two... not so much.

I saw my first volleyball match ever on D-Days evening. A little bit funner than I thought it would be. Most sports are better live then in person and volleyball is no exception. I didn't know Fort Wayne was 4-0 in the Summit until sometime in the 3rd or 4th set. I was wondering how in the heck they were handling the Yotes so easily in the first set which was 25-16 for the elephants. Then the Coyotes blew about 4 set points in the 2nd set and dropped behind the Dons 2 sets to nil. It looked like the perfect record in conference play was about to end but the Yotes toughed out the third and had a strong finish to the 4th to cause the deciding 5th set. It was all Yotes and they sent the Indianans home with an L. I know very little about college volleyball and didn't know they switched benches every set. They have a half time break of about 10 minutes after the 2nd set. I like the Yotes coach as she is pretty intense especially when a call didn't go the Yotes way and she was on the officials and caused them to reconsider a point that ended up bein replayed. I like her fire. I also didn't know that in warm ups a lot of balls come sailing into the stands. Even during the match a few go flying in. It's not that I don't know anything about the sport as I played in a rec league once and watch it at the Olympics. It was worth going to but I don't know if I would make a long trip to go see a match unless there was a lot riding on it.

Women's college volleyball is a great sport. It's full of action and moves at a fast pace. Other than football, this is one sport I do know as my daughters played. People have asked me just how good we are, and my reply is that if we were in a power 5 conference, we would likely be in the middle of the pack. At the mid major level, we would be in the top 20%. Volleyball, like basketball, is a sport where momentum changes at the drop of a hat.
I attend a fair amount of USD matches (driving 2 hours ) because this them warrants our support. Not trying to guilt anyone, but if it's even remotely feasible for you to come to the arena Tuesday night, the Coyotes play Iowa State. ISU is down a little, but still would be in the upper half of the Big 12. A win Tuesday night could go a long way in a possible invite to the NCAA tournament should we happen to not win the conference tournament in late November.
Our setter is without doubt one of the top 25 setters in all of college volleyball. She is outstanding. The rest of the team is full of players I would say are very good but not over the top outstanding. When you have a team like we have, you can beat anyone....including the big time programs. Our setter is good enough to distribute the ball around that would frustrate a lot of teams. She's really that good. Our defense has been pretty darned good, and we have a team that is opportunistic when the door gets opened.
Hope to see you Tuesday night in Vermillion. Please consider coming and supporting this gem of a team against a very formidable opponent.

In beating IPFW, USD is now the lone remaining unbeaten team in Summit League play. Big week for the team coming up. Iowa State is a power conference opponent and a chance to bolster the resume, then the team hits the road to play Omaha and Denver - the two SL teams USD hasn't had a chance to beat yet.

I would think a win against Iowa State and the Yotes would be close to being ranked.
I know the rest of the conference is not very good but 18-2 is 18-2. It also sounds like they are beating a lot of teams 3-0 each night.

When you include the losses to Alabama and Iowa this team has dropped a total of 13 sets across 19 games. Very impressive. Through 19 matches last year the team had dropped 43 sets and had a 9-10 record. This is one incredibly improved team.

I believe they only have 2 seniors who will no doubt be missed but other than those 2 they're a very young, yet experienced team
