I think it's a good time to draw the Jacks right now. They are still searching for an identity and the Yotes pretty much know what they are and they are on the rise. Who would have thunk it. It should be the other way around.
I am going Coyotes 68-58.

I agree that catching State right now without Miller is better than later in the year. It's still going to be a dogfight. I'll say we win 65-64 with clutch free-throw shooting winning the day in the final seconds.
I think both of these teams have a high ceiling and will be tough to beat come time for the SLT. Get your tickets now!

Get your tickets now! Not to toot my own horn, but.... TOOT! Wow. What a great game. I'd be interested to know what Ober's injury is. With her that would have been a different game. Coach P talked about how our shooting was off in the first half due to nerves, and they would be fine in the 2nd. - She knows her team well. I remember Seekamp being the calming force at the end of games, making the cluch shots. Bridget Arens isn't this teams leading scorer but that mid-range jumper at the end of the game was crucial. Going through a tough game like that and coming out on top matures players quickly. The Arens sisters finished that one off with style, and this team is only getting better. OK. I'm convinced. We are the team to beat in a competitive group of top teams. I'm less concerned with ORU's defense or WIU's offense now. It is far from a gimmie, but this is a great team, led by a great coach. GO YOTES! I'm laying down a challenge to all the SF Coyote Alumni: Let's fill the T. Denny this year, and make it a home game for our athletes!

Not impressed with state, but that may change with Over back in the next one. This one isn't much of a game if we remember to play two halves.

Once the Coyotes relaxed, they were able to get back to what has been so successful for them all season. Good defense, solid rebounding and good shooting. The fact that USD was able to still be in the game with only making 6 shots in the first half made it easy to see that once shots started to fall they would be able to climb back in it. Fun game to watch. Crowd was pretty good and the noise in the SCSC is something that will play a factor in tight games the rest of the season. Go Yotes!

According to Zimmer, there were 2,518 in attendance at Frost for the men's game today. USD reported there were 2,595 at the SCSC for the women's game. It got loud in there today. Can't wait to see what that place looks and sounds like when it nears capacity!

Great gritty win by the Lady Yotes!! Hung in there after a rocky first half and even though a young team didn't panic, settled down generally played very good D in the 2nd half and the attacking O helped a lot the 2nd half. Great crowd for the holiday weekend too! GO COYOTES!!!

Both games would have had better attendance had they both been held in Brookings or Vermillion. Next weekend is a true doubleheader against IUPUI. I bet both sports benefit.

The Coyotes just continue to find ways to win. This time they had to do it the hard way having to come from behind. I wonder how long it has been since a Coyote women's team has been able to rally against SDSU down 13 or more to pick up a win. I bet it has been an awfully long time.
I am so happy that this one went in the win column because having been swept by the Jacks would not have been a good way for 2016 to end. Maybe because the star power was limited in the game might have been an explanation but it didn't seem like the game had the usual intensity from a player stand point. Maybe I would have changed my mind had I been there in person.
It seems like the Coyotes have still not played their "A" game yet in conference but still are 2-0 and with a win over the Jacks under their belt. If the Coyotes have serious plans to three peat this was pretty much a must win game. I think the Jacks will probably win the rematch in Frost when they get a little more adjusted to playing without Miller and possibly get Ober back for the second round.
NDSU is off to a surprisingly good start to their conference season. It's gonna take a good performance to come out of Fargo with a win on Wednesday night.

soundcloud.com/argus-sportsremember this episode of "#100 Eyes on Sports" with Matt Zimmer? Start listening around 3:20 I'll be interested to hear Zimmer's excuses why the indomitable Lady Jacks lost with an 11-point lead at the half. I'm sure he'll mention Ober being out, and conveniently forget to mention our injured seniors...

You can't tell me that losing two seniors to injury for the season, resulting in us returning a total of 19.8 MPG at the guard position, is worth noting. It's barely a footnote. /sarcasm Our depth may well come back to bite us. Our starting 5 is very good and McKeever has been fantastic off the bench, but we don't have anyone averaging more than 10 MPG outside of those six. Any more injuries and we are in trouble. Very little experience waiting on the bench but that is what happens when you graduate 5 seniors and have 2 seniors out for the year.

Team has won 21 straight games at home, a school record, and 39 of the last 40 (the loss being to a final four team). That's an incredible run.

I'm sure he'll mention Ober being out, and conveniently forget to mention our injured seniors... Kiyoat, Great post. What you are saying is exactly why as a fan I have a big chip on my shoulder when it comes to this rivalry in this sport. How many years in a row do the Coyotes have to succeed before they will finally get some respect from basically anyone. The comparisons between what happened in the off season between the Coyote Women and the Jacks Men are VERY similar but the Coyotes Women do not get the benefit of the doubt like the Rabbit men, and look at the difference between the programs how they have moved on from what was last year. The difference is astoundingly in favor of what USD has done but of course from the media you won't hear about that. What is harder to over come losing one's best player for the year and another good player for what appears to be for a short time or losing ones coach, 4 starters and 2 of the best returning players. I still don't think it is even a close comparison but the Coyotes don't lean on excuses like the one's that Matt Zimmer likes to conveniently use to support his cause. Maybe the Rabbit Women bought into their own hype that their fans, media, rankings etc have instilled onto them. Lets look at what the Coyotes would look like and the Jacks would look like if the roles were reversed. The Jacks would have first of all lost Aaron Johnston and Macy Miller, Ober, Young and Ellie Thompson. BTW I am having to really stetch to find many good players after that. Then of the returners lets eliminate Madison Guebert and Alexis Alexander who would be out for the year. After that trust me that leaves a bunch of scrubs that wouldn't make the top 6 rotation of current Coyotes. Now it's time to look at the Coyotes. We could debate which player between the current Allison Arens of the departing Seekamp would have to be injured for the year but to be fair let's say it's Seekamp that would be out for the year become of her being a veteran. Let's say the player that is out for a few games is Fogg as she would be the similar compliment to Ober. So that leaves a coach of Amy Williams and a starting lineup of Hemiller, Stewart, Allison Arens, McCloud and the elder Duffy. Check out the bench. Fogg, B Arens, Trimboli, junior Duffy, Bradley and McKeever. That team is so loaded that they just keep throwing out fresh bodies and probably hammer the scrub Jacks by 20 or more at Frost arena. Would the scrub Jacks be able to go 13-2 through their first 15 games with a new coach. So Matt Zimmer read the above and maybe you would change your opinion and your uninformed assumptions. I could swear everyone that enrolls at, coaches at, works at, attends games at, reports at SDSU must be forced to take some kind of a Jackrabbit serum that makes people completely irrational to sound body and mind. Maybe it's laced in the SDSU ice cream. That serum does not allow you to think beyond the SDSU way of thinking. Just watch a game and read their board. Their team could get 5 straight calls that go their way but the next one is a close charge/block that goes against them and the entire arena is up in arms and booing that they don't get every call. You do not see Coyote fans act like that. I have noticed this for year. Not one person that I have ever read about or heard talk about ever considered Coyote Women's basketball as threat to them this year. They made way to many assumptions and are getting burned once again like they always do.
