What if the capacity of the D.D. makes this the only choice? The 2015 Master Plan for Athletic Facilities lists a goal of increasing the capacity of the dome to 16,000. I assume they came up with this figure based on evaluating what is possible. Upper tier stands would probably be needed. The minimum for FBS is 15,000. Intriguing idea... How would you put upper tier seating in the Dome? Mirroring the seating of the east side on the west side would bring seating up to around 15k... where would they put the extra seats to get another 1k?

I cannot imagine how much noise there would be in that building at a 16,000 seat capacity. That place would be an absolute snakepit for any team to come into. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pit_(arena)I agree!

Herbster said in the recent interview (video above) we would "eventualy" take the west side seating all the way to the top. The Volante interview with him back in February (linked in the original post) mentioned permanent seating up to the concourse on the west side in phase I. Later it mentions upper seating in phase II or III. So I think it would be tiered on the west only, not a mirror-image of the east. That's my interpretation, anyway. So capacity would maybe go to 12k or 13k in phase I, with no timetable for the later phases, depending on growth of attendance. Just a guess.

Also, the 2015 master plan mentions "end-zone" seating, but I don't see how that would even be possible without tearing out the walls. Possibly that is a reference to what eventually became the club windows on the south.

It would be nice to be able to put a concourse around the north end zone kind of like UND. That would take a lot of work and would probably require the wall to be open up and moved back.

the dome would need to add 9k seats to get to a real capacity of 15k. If they mirrored the east side the capacity would be less then 12k. usd's 15k and 15k in reality are two different things. better hope the FBS police dont validate any future capacity.

I didn't bother to pick apart your faulty math earlier CF. Just please stop with it right now. The Dome holds more than 6,000.

The east side holds about 6 or 7k. The other 2-3k are already on the west bleachers. Those leave and are then replaced with seats, similar to the east. Thus the 12,500 range.

Also remember the pool needs to find a new home, and then the current concourse can be redone/expanded. Not sure I have heard where that is in the pecking order - anyone else?

I wouldn't mind having a discussion on posted stadium capacities. I made the trip to Western Illinois this week and found the actual capacity to be similar to that of the Dome, but their stated capacity was over 16k. Is this normal?

This is the first I've heard that the pool needs to leave the Dome. I know that it leaks a ton, but I figured they'd just keep it down there.

My estimate was about 7400 and I think it was pretty accurate and I showed my work like any good math student would do. I was actually more then generous in figuring out the seating capacity of the east grand stand. I am all about the facts first and foremost.

The issue - as I understand it - isn't the pool as much as the space. If the pool is gone there is now room to widen the concourse, push bathrooms to the east, etc.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE IN THE DOME RENOVATION?
Prioritize as fans what you would like to see

Better sound. Wider concourse. More parking. Those would help improve my experience as a fan.
