So, you want to be like Iowa State with a siren? Ugh. I suppose I am more of a train whistle and locomotive chugging sort of guy. Just a suggestion. To me, there is nothing about a train that says "USD" or "South Dakota" There is a stronger Native American presence in Vermilion than Brookings, IMO, but harnessing any of that for gameday traditions would be seen as culturally insensitive. Rightfully so. Our fine arts college, music department and marching band are excellent. Maybe we should be highlighting that in a remodel? I know the Gopher's new stadium in Minneapolis really catered to the marching band and students section. I think there are band facilities built into the stands. When I was in marching band (96-97) we worked hard to be the 12th man, and we had a premium location at the northwest 40-yard line. The football coach at that time always told us how appreciative he was for our efforts. We were way louder than the student section in all but the SDSU game. I think that has changed, with the "Coyote Crazies", but the band can still be a good asset to consider in the remodel. IMHO

Well then I went and listened to the Coyotes howling. That was actually very annoying and kinda creepy. Not sure that would go over too well.
Other fan bases make fun of the Cyclone air raid siren. It's just so ISU. They are notorious for creating artificial noise and blasting sirens and music. I would want USD to be known for being organically loud.
Trains kind of harken back to the Old West and the Great Plains and South Dakota is a western plains state, that is all. Makes more sense then sirens or cannons or bells.
Maybe us fans should just be loud. No gimmicks.

I'm not a huge fan of cannons. It seems like everyone does those already.

Why not rev up the Harley Davidson like we do when the players take the field? I'm not a motorcycle guy, but I always enjoy that scene. I also don't care for the Rally, but that sound would certainly be applicable to South Dakota.

* Build in something unique - Cannons in the corner to fire off on KOs and after TDs, A Huge Bell that could be rung before the game and after scores. How about a Coyote Crazies Train Whistle going off? There are several ideas I am sure that could be considered. Here's an idea: Hand-held crank air-raid sirens. Several of these going off at once would sound like a pack of coyotes howling. A few stadiums already use large air-raid sirens (NFL Cardinals, Washington Huskies, etc.), but several smaller ones would be different. You'd have to probably OK it with the Valley, and only do it at certain times, like pregame, or after a touchdown. Kind of an annoying sound, but could be intimidating. For comparison, here's an actual Coyote pack howling. Terrifying. finally this jackrabbit fan and a coyote fan agree on something LOL!!!!

Sort of. I'm talking about the former Den/old hoops practice court/weight room above and behind the student section. That will become a concourse at some point w/ some seating. But right now, it is a giant slab of concrete with a black fabric panel hiding it from view of the bowl. If we take down the divider, why couldn't we put bleachers on the former playing surface for VB (or just let people stand up there)? Short-term fix, not long-term thinking. In other words, can't we add another ~1,000 people this year? That is what I was getting at. We are on the same page. Is someone able to ask the administration if we can make this happen for our last home game of the year?

What if a majority of those extra tickets end up in the hands of bunny people? Who wants them wandering around, especially above our students?

I was thinking it would be expanded seating for students. We may need it for that one.

Couple of comments here...
One of the first things to figure out is how many people can comfortably fit into the existing Dome. It has its limitations. Probably 13,000 is the max but I'm not a structural engineer (like my son) or architectural engineer. The key word is comfortable. Not too many additional people are going to attend a game if their seating, etc. is uncomfortable. Bleachers are not the way to go unless they are for a playoff game or the like.
The current roof is terrible but that is the way it is. Too bad natural lighting was not constructed. I was at the Vikings game this past weekend (go Vikes!!). Now THAT roof is something!! Seriously, roofs are prohibitively expensive and determine to a great extent what can and cannot be done with an indoor facility. Not good news here but that doesn't mean a concourse of sorts can be built outside of the existing dome structure. Personally I wouldn't go for it to any great extent, though.
The lighting inside the Dome is terrible but I'm not sure what can be done about it unless a big investment is made to somehow get near-natural lighting installed. On the other hand, maybe the current lighting helps our team (players used to it?).
Expansion to the west side is inevitable but a way has to be found to easily allow fans to gain entrance - and exit. Certainly the slope of seating can be a bit steeper on the west side but that probably won't gain much. A second deck could be constructed on the west side but again, the added cost is probably not economical.
Get rid of the black walls and lighten them up. Sound system is pretty good in my opinion. Go for the Coyote "howl" after touchdowns as opposed to other noises; maybe a guest celebrity starts things out pregame and a chosen student/cheerleader does this during the game. Hmmm, since I know of no device that emits a howl sound it might be good to have a person give us their "howl" at the start of the game followed by a recorded sound from that point on. Just a thought.
In sum, I think the way to go is to provide a great sports venue/environment and continue to upgrade the facility, knowing its limitations. If and when we get to full capacity and people are begging for a larger venue, then we start planning for replacement.
Not sure if my son would want to do an evaluation of the Dome structure. I'd like to think so because he is a big Yote fan although not a grad of USD. I do know that reinforced concrete structures have a very, very long lifespan.

Is someone able to ask the administration if we can make this happen for our last home game of the year? Yes, I will. Good points. For starters, they can't put up bleachers on the flat up above because of the "ribbon board" that is in place would be in many people's line of sight. Secondly, there is a major concern for weight of that many people, that's why the volleyball had a maximum number of 350 people. Lastly there is the overall general concern of concessions and bathroom facilities. They contemplated doing this last year against NDSU but didn't do it for the reasons I stated.

Well... that's that... Sell super discounted tickets to stand behind the end zones? NDSU sells standing only tickets for the corners of their arena. That's where I watched the game two years ago.
