I wasn't aware of the new league. Should be interesting. Both this "AAF" in Feb 2019 and the reincarnated "XFL" in Feb 2020 seem to be trying to take advantage of the downturn in NFL viewership. Both of them have rule changes that portend to fix things seen as reasons fans have been souring on the NFL, and football in general. Should be interesting. I like the idea of competitors to the NFL, so they don't have a total monopoly on the pro game. I also like the experimentation in areas like trying to shorten the game, limit injuries, etc. If nothing else, maybe some of the innovation will be adopted by the NFL. There has long been a need for more opportunities for all the elite players coming out of high school and college programs to at least play semi-pro or "minor league" football. The previous XFL was an abject failure, but indoor leagues are still around. I hope they are successful, for the athletes's sake (and for the future of the sport). I am skeptical if they will succeed, but it's worth trying. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alliance_of_American_Footballen.wikipedia.org/wiki/XFL_(2020)I've got my money on the AAF having more success than the XFL2, mainly due to the strategies of not placing teams in existing NFL markets, and the regional drafts. Also Vince McMahon is an idiot.

The AAF is on record that they are not trying to compete with the NFL, that they are simply filling a niche and a market for more football. Their goal is to be a development ground and to move players on to the NFL, a legitimate "next best level" of football. From that standpoint I think their main competition would be NCAA ball, but I don't think they are taking players straight out of high school.
