Hey - didn't we just find out that WIU hates us and we hate them? This should be a big game then, right?

Coyotes win a barn-burner vs Western Illinois in 5 sets: 26-24, 25-20, 19-25, 20-25, 15-10
Now they are 7-6 (1-0)
Western Illinois was picked last in the Summit League preseason poll, and only had one conference win last year.
Up next: NDSU
Go Yotes!

Just by first glance it seems like this year is a bit of a step backwards. There were some tough non conference games but there were some losses in there against teams that a program striving to win a conference title maybe should have beaten. That tough of a struggle against Western Illinois isn't really a great sign either especially on the home court. If the Coyotes are to win the conference they will need to step up the game and maybe step it up quite a bit. Obviously time will tell.

USD suffers their first ever SCSC Summit home loss tonight against NDSU 25-11, 20-25, 21-25, 22-25. I watched the 3rd and 4th sets and the Coyotes were just not quite as good and NDSU apparently has multiple freshman playing and a lot of seniors that graduated last year.

Last year the co conference champ Coyotes lost at Fort Wayne in a sweep. Unless Fort Wayne really regressed that was quite the bounce back for the Yotes to sweep them. I did not expect the Coyotes to win let alone sweep. Maybe that win will get the team back on track again. Go Yotes.

The Coyotes defeated Oral Roberts in the shiny new red arena 3 games to 1 tonight. That validates the Fort Wayne win on the road and now the Coyotes are 3-1 in the Summit League. A mini turnaround for the team in the last two matches. They have gone 6 sets to 1 over that time span.

Wow. Things starting to really look up for the Coyotes Vball team! They are growing up just in time for conference play. They beat UNO in Omaha 3-1, and are now 4-1 in conference play, behind only 5-1 ORU (who they also beat this week). Rival Denver has 2 conference losses. And there's this: www.goyotes.com/news/2017/10/9/womens-volleyball-dotseth-rasmussen-claim-summit-league-players-of-the-week.aspxDotseth and Rasmussen sweep offense/defense Summit players-of-the-week for the Yotes! Rasmussen (a sophomore) has earned this honor for 3 consecutive weeks! Go Yotes!

I didn't realize that Oral Roberts was that good. That really makes that win against them a good one. The Yotes have definitely woken up.

Lost to Denver in straight sets. bummer.
On the positive side, nice job to those of you who have attended a match in the SCSC this year! Last year we were #1 in Volleyball attendance, but some of that could be attributed to the SCSC opener. Over 2,600 for that match! If you take that match out, we averaged 696 per match, or 2nd in the Summit behind NDSU.
This year so far we have averaged 771 per match. Progress. Unfortunately I haven't made it down there yet this year. Do those of you who have notice the bump in attendance? I know 700 fans in a 6,000 seat arena can seem empty, but its actually a comparatively good turnout. Most teams play in front of 300-500 in this league. Just like the basketball attendance, these things don't change overnight. The SDSU match was 1,072. I think the Season-ending match with Denver might be a bigger draw as well.
Anyway, to all the great fans that go to those matches, keep up the good work!
