First real action of the season today. (I would guess there was a secret scrimmage or two, but you know, those are secret.) Here is the link to Mick's season preview for USF: USF Preview
It is easy to just assume a blowout win - because it should be - but USF has some talent and size. Also, I noticed the highly-vaunted Rabbit's went to the wire in their exhibition game against a team USF would beat. So you never know. There is no webcast or radio for the game ( ) so I'm hoping someone on the board can provide some insights if they get a chance to go.

Free throw shooting hasn't gotten any better... with 6 min 40 sec left in game we are shooting 48% at the line... 12 of 25...

The freshmen didn't play because decisions about who might be redshirted haven't been made yet.

The freshmen didn't play because decisions about who might be redshirted haven't been made yet. Exhibition games don't count towards redshirting. It would seem to indicate that the freshmen who were healthy are going to redshirt.

Anyone who was there with any notable takeaways?

Anyone who was there with any notable takeaways? Pretty sure the young guys never saw the court because we never had a comfortable enough lead to let them play. The biggest lead we had all night was only 12 or 13 points and that was shortlived. I believe we had four players in double digits with Hagedorn scoring the most at 15. Hurst had a sweet dunk as well.

Anyone who was there with any notable takeaways? We better hope that we don't have to close out games at the end with free throws or we are screwed! The biggest issue I think this year will be lack of a post presence. The Coyotes don't have that rim protector they had last year with Flack and that changes things a little for the perimeter defenders. When the perimeter guys got beat, the USF guys got all the way to the basket almost every time and either scored or were fouled.

Definitely interesting to see USF hang with you guys a little bit. They were picked to finish 9th in the NSIC preseason coaches' poll, so I was expecting a 20-25 point win for the Coyotes. More interesting to me is how many minutes USD's key players put in. It was noted earlier, but Coach Smith really only played 8 guys (for the most part), which seems like a pretty short rotation for a D2 exhibition. That being said, USF has had decent talent the past couple of years, they just haven't quite managed to put it all together so far. Maybe this year they'll have the pieces in place to make better progress standings-wise than they have the past 3-4 years. As I'm sure I've said before, I'd love to see the Vikes get this exhibition game in the future, but I doubt that's on the horizon anytime soon. Honestly, I'm hoping you guys win the Summit League, as I enjoy when SDSU loses and, for the most part, Craig Smith doesn't compete against Augie for recruits the way NDSU and SDSU have been the past couple of years. He seems to be more comfortable taking guys from outside of Augie's main recruiting footprint, which is perfectly fine by me.

Smith has always done a good job manipulating playing time in the OOC to see what lineups work best in what situations. I expect then next game to look significantly different as far as players and time played goes.
Anyone who went, How did Jech do? has he made progress over the summer and looks to be a contributor?
