The Cyclones win it 81-76. Iowa State won the first and fourth and the Coyotes won the middle two quarters. Pretty good performance by the Coyotes. This is one of those games where the home teams wins IMO. Liveringhouse got her first career start and she had a good game. Allison not so much. The D seemed up and down. This is an acceptable loss but one that would have been nice to pull out.

Bradley, AA and Caitlin need to be bigger parts of the offense moving forward. Iowa State took away those threats and some others stepped up and scored. I don't think having Liveringhouse, Fredrick and Lamb was the game plan but they were the ones who got the open looks and to their credit, they stepped up and took the shots.

I question the decision making that goes into Liveringhouse, Frederick and Lamb outshooting your three leading scorers from last year 35-15. We will have to get the opinion from someone that watched but that does seem rather odd. Iowa State may have forced that too. Where was Caitlin Duffy today and her sister wasn't much of a factor the longer the game went along as well. This seemed like a game that the usual suspects weren't the ones carrying the load.

Cyclones shooting 61% from the floor and from the arc. Hard to overcome that. The Coyotes will only go as far as the D takes them. Seemed like in the 1st and 4th it was non existent.

I question the decision making that goes into Liveringhouse, Frederick and Lamb outshooting your three leading scorers from last year 35-15. Coach P mentioned after the game that the posts had extra opportunities to shoot because they were pulling defenders to double-team our guards. Frederick only had 14 minutes, too. I think they were trying to take Bradley and Ciara out of the game. Here are the minutes: 33 Lamb 27 Duffy Ciara 26 Arens Monica 25 Liveringhouse 25 Trimboli 23 Bradley 14 Frederick 11 Arens Allison 9 Duffy Caitlin 7 McKeever

I didn't watch the game. And I'm not saying that Liveringhouse, Frederick and Lamb didn't do exactly what they were supposed to do. They all apparently played well and I'm not trying to take anything away from them.
All I am saying is that Arens, Bradley and Duffy need to be putting up more than five shots apiece to beat good teams.

Checking the box score Caitlin only played 9 minutes today and McKeever only 7. McKeever's defense sure could have been used a little more often IMO. Lamb played the most minutes with 33 and was 4-13 from the field. Today's game was very odd from a minutes stand point and a true freshman co led the team in shot attempts. Going forward the shot attempts in order should be closer to this. A Arens, Bradley, Caitlin Duffy, Trimboli, Ciara Duffy.

I'll be interested to see how the Cyclones fare this season. I think with an offense like that they should win quite a few games. Sounds like they have a good number of newer players that need time to gel. I'll bet both teams make the tourney.

Looking at the Twitter site, the starters were supposed to be: A Arens J Trimboli C Duffy C Duffy K Liveringhouse Alison lost 7 turnovers in the first half, and was pulled. Caitlin, I'm guessing, may have not been 100%? Jasmine and Ciara played a lot, but likely were targeted by the ISU defense. I'm glad the rest of the team was able to pick up the slack! It's a long season, and we will need that depth.

The eight turnovers undoubtedly kept Arens from getting a few more shots off. Overall, I think it's probably a pretty good loss. On the road. Power Five team. Your best players didn't do much and you still could have won it. Plus, it looks like you've got a gamer in at least one of your freshmen.

By looking at the numbers it is amazing that the Coyotes only lost by 5.
shooting percentage ISU won 61% to 45.2% rebounding ISU won 30-25 three pointers made ISU won 11-9 free throws made ISU won 20-11 turnover USD had fewer 17-22
I guess USD won the smoke and mirrors category.

We shot a higher volume of shots. 62-41. We got more offensive rebounds. 11-5. We got more 2nd chance points. 9-4. We scored more in the paint. 34-18. We had more bench points 32-26. We were more efficient on free-throws 85% - 77%. If ISU hadn't shot so efficiently, we win that game outright.
