Getting in a little late and going to take a short-cut. Been a real busy week.
The conference is winding down. There are 4 teams at 4-2 and the Bison at 5-1. 4 of these teams play one another and UNI is @ MSU in an interesting matchup.
This week there are two key games that will help determine the champion:
USD @ NDSU Predicted: USD 27 NDSU 30; 57 over/under. Great defenses should keep the scores down. NDSU is a little stronger on both sides of the ball and is playing at home. I think they will cover the 3 points but the over/under will come in under.
iSUr @ SDSU: Predicted: SDSU 25 ISUr 32. 57 over/under. Both teams have good defenses and stingy offenses. ISUr is just a little more prolific on offense and stingier on defense. SDSU is on fire. The over/under will probably fall. In the end I expect a close game but an ISUr win. I'd like to call the upset but the Redbirds are a national championship team that has won big down the stretch on their way to a title. If they win out, beating SDSU and NDSU. They will be looking very good at 6-2. The other game of interest as mentioned is UNI @ MSU. The Bears have been playing some exciting football of late but UNI, despite their problems rushing, are by all indications the favorite by 20 points, mythical score 34-14, with over/under 48. Maybe homefield with help keep UNI from covering and a good offensive show will put the point total over 48.
Finally I have to say thank you to UND. What a fun season they are having. I have enjoyed it as much as most of the Mussman teams. An entertaining team to watch hats off to the F'hawkers for providing game after game of hilarious and entertaining football!
In a nutshell here are the picks for the games 11/11/2017:
USD @ NDSU: Bison ISUr @ SDSU: Redbirds. UNI @ MSU: Panthers
The other games:
WIU @ Indiana State: The Leathernecks YSU @ SIU: Penguins. Small chance of an upset but SIU seems to have packed it in.
Tie Breaker:
EWU @ UND: EWU in a romp. This could be one of the most wide open and fun games of the season. EWU has a great offense. UND has a terrible defense. What fun this might be!

EWU @ UND: EWU in a romp. This could be one of the most wide open and fun games of the season. EWU has a great offense. UND has a terrible defense. What fun this might be! Excuse me, but I doubt EWU tops the 38 point beatdown that USD laid on UND. I'll give them 28 points.

USD at NDSU - Bison 31-14 ISUr at SDSU - The most up and down teams in the league - Jacks 38-10 UNI at MSU - This is going to be an interesting game I think - I will take UNI 34-31 in OT WIU at ISUb - The Leathernecks have too much on the line to lose, or do they? Necks 47-7 YSU at SIU - Both seasons have taken a down turn. I will take the frozen Penguins 35-10
EWU at UND - The red turfed bird freaks (EWU) 40-27

USD 31 @ NDSU 24 Both teams are beat-up, but USD is getting some guys back while NDSU is losing them Ill St. 27 @ SDSU 35 The rabbits do the opposite of what I think will happen, so.... UNI 28 @ NSU 37 MSU is on an upswing, and UNI should be riding a 2 game losing streak YSU 40 @ SIU 17 SIU is playing for next year WIU 47 @ ISU 10 Ooof
EWU 17 @ UND 30 UND has to have some guys back from injury by now

Just looking at the 3 big games: USD @ NDSU, ISU @ SDSU and UNI @ MSU there are at least 10 possible outcomes, I used to think 9. So far this is what we think
2 believe NDSU, SDSU and UNI win leaving the Bison in the drivers seat 1 believes NDSU and SDSU win and UNI loses again Bison in drivers seat 1 believes NDSU and UNI win and SDSU loses again leaving Bison in drivers seat 1 believes USD, ISU and UNI win leaving the league knotted with 4 teams at 5-2
USD winning is by far the most important game to the rest of the league. As far as I can see it nobody can win outright except NDSU. Unless NDSU wins out a tie breaker is going to have to be invoked.
NDSU is assured a tie but not home field through out.
USD could probably secure home field through out by winning out. Those would be impressive tie breakers.
It seems two of the Dakota schools are likely to meet sometime in the playoffs in one of these beautiful football stadiums.
Just as an observation, most of us believe the UND game is going to be wonderfully entertaining and that is of course with a nod to the Yotes. They were the first to expose them although the second half of the Richmond debacle in Grand Forks last year gave us a glimpse of what a truly weak schedule can do for a slightly above average team. UND never really was a playoff team.

USD @ NDSU = USD. We have an uphill battle but it's more fun to pick my favorite team. ISUr @ SDSU = SDSU. It seems the Cardinals never play very well in Brookings. UNI @ MoSt = MO St. UNI team and (some) fans overrated. YSU @ SIU = YSU. The "lack of depth" game of the week. WIU @ ISUb = WIU. If I were a betting person, this is where I'd put my money.
EWU @ UND = UND wins 27-24. EWU overrated (without their starting QB)

How's this for a prediction: "Pelini blows his top in Carbondale" I think Youngstown wins the game, but to me this is a matchup between two trash-talking teams that could get ugly. Get your popcorn.
