Hence the reason we'll never see baseball return to USD... Student population is around 62% female and 38% male... Title IX will not allow us to add any more men's sports until there is parity in the student population again... Heard rumors they were exploring Women's Archery as well.

Is this purely for Title IX purposes?
Archery makes sense. Mount Marty already did that. If the sport ever picked up interest we could be a national powerhouse with the facilities in Yankton nearby.

From rumors I've heard, it's to help USD get into compliance with Title IX. We are unique in that we have such a high female to male ratio.

I can't say I am an expert at Triathlon but I can say that I will respect the athletes as much as any other sport offered at USD. To be a great triathlete it would take an incredible amount of training and a huge amount of will power. I hate running just to run and have never been very good at it. Because of that I respect anyone that can make it through an endurance sport such as this. I am guessing this sport must be a fairly low cost sport. I guess if you can find a lake, a bicycle and a pair of sneakers you could compete in this sport.

I wonder if some of these athletes are also current XC or T&F athletes? Is that how this works?

I think Black Hills State offers Triathlon as a women's sport as well since I saw on local TV that an athlete had signed a letter of intent to compete there in that sport. I would assume probably 1-2 competitions a year simply because the sport is so strenuous.

Coyote women finished second at nationals behind Arizona State who pretty much dominated the competition. Still great first year for these ladies as we had three finish in the top ten and all three were freshmen. The future looks bright. I can't even imagine the amount of training and discipline, both mental and physical, it takes to compete in this sport. Great job Coyote triathletes!
