Everyone here seems to agree that a deep NIT run is just as good as a NCAA berth (if it's a one-and-done). I'd like to point out that the only way to guarantee a NIT berth is to win the regular season, so it does have some meaning aside from SLT seeding.

As the 3 games in March is discussed, we should look at the history of the tournament for the past 26 years(1993-94). Remember that the past 9 have been in Sioux Falls. 18 times the tournament was won by the #1 seed or about 70% of the time. 6 times it was won by the #2 seed in which 3 of those times it was a co-champion of the regular season which accounts for 23% of the victories. 1 time it was won by the #4 seed Jackrabbits in Sioux Falls and 1 time it was won by the #7 seed Oakland in Tulsa. Sioux Falls may not be a neutral floor, but it has not made the predictability of the outcome change too far from the norm other than create some cash flow for the conference teams. The biggest difference for the NIT/NCAA tourney is the money it brings to the schools. If you get a good gate for the NIT, I am not sure it there is any sharing of gate above the bid with the other conference schools and you have a better opportunity for more games(which is good).

i bet when the 1 or 2 seed won it was because that team was sdsu or ndsu. i know for sure when ipfw was the 1 seed they did not win it. the coyotes men or women have been the 1 seed 3 times and are 0-3 in those instances winning the tourney. not so ironically the one team with the larger fan following upset the coyotes each of those times. the crowd size makes a big difference.

I would rather win BOTH the SL regular season and tournament titles.

I know this would never happen because of the money aspect, but you could count me among those that think the regular season conference champ should get the autobid to the NCAAs. Until that happens though if I had to make a choice I'd opt for the SLT title. Maybe that's just me and I'm definitely not downplaying anything else.

I had not looked at the women's tourney history. The women have had the #1 or #2 seed win 15 times. The #3 seed has won 3 times. The #4 seed has won 5 times. The last 4 seed to win was USD upsetting 1 seed SDSU. The #6 seed has won once. Last year the #1 seed WIU won the women's. www.thesummitleague.org/RecordBook/Women-s_Basketball_History.pdf

So you would give up USD's lone trip to the NCAA tournament (your women upset #1 SDSU) because you are unhappy USD lost as a #1 seed in the Men's side last year? Just win. NDSU took SDSU out when we were the #1 seed. USD (as stated earlier) took out SDSU's women when we were the #1 seed. I don't recall any SDSU fans complaining and wanting the regular season champ to get the bid. You EARN the #1 seed in the regular season. That's what the regular season is for. At the end of last year, the year which seems to have USD fans up in arms, SDSU was arguably the hottest team entering the tourney, it isn't like we came from nowhere to upset USD. Every league in the country has their #1 seed knocked off every now and then. Look at the Horizon last year. Did you hear any complaints from Oakland? Just win. Somehow NDSU have gone to 3 of the last 7 men's NCAA tourneys playing in Sioux Falls. Somehow WIU and IUPUI played for the Women's title last year, playing in Sioux Falls. Again, just win.

Of course SDSU fans will not complain and want the regular season champ to get the auto bid because they would have fewer tourney berths and road games would actually count towards getting a bid. Not all teams get to have home court in every game of the tourney like the Jacks. Of course SDSU fans only care about themselves and the health of the league is only dependent on the health of the Jacks. I would gladly have given up USD's only women's tourney appearance because if the regular season decided it the teams would have 3 appearances instead of 1. Even though USD benefits greatly from the tourney in Sioux Falls I am not selfish enough to not realize that the overall stability of the league is not going to be helped by the SDSU invitational.
SDSU fans have a huge sense of entitlement with the tourney. When I went to the tourney last year I happened to sit close to mostly Jacks fans and the looks on their faces when I showed up in Coyote gear was that of the type of look a person would have on their face if their grandma died. It's like a shocked look, like what is a Coyote fan doing here. We own this tourney, no one else should be allowed a seat in the lower deck of the SDSU invitational. Opposing teams fans can share the upper deck as far as they are concerned. I knew someone very closely that used to work in the ticket office during the tourney and it wasn't even close to which teams fans were the biggest jerks and expected everything to be catered to them. Now the word has gotten around with other teams football fans as well. Of all fan bases the SDSU fans were the worst guests of anyone. The sense of entitlement apparently travels well too. Of course that sense of entitlement tends to shrink in cold weather when the conditions are far from perfect to watch a rabbit game.

Someone else can teach you statistical sampling, but if the argument is 'just win', then, by almost every logical POV, the round robin style of conference play would the one who most deserved the auto-bid. Because, you know, they just won.

The Drake men lead Minnesota 23-15 at the under 4 timeout in Minnesota. The Gophers looked like a top 10 team but suddenly they play Alabama with 5 players to the Tides 3 and somehow Alabama actually outplayed U of M with 2 fewer players. How does that happen. Good thing that Gophers aren't playing the Coyotes or they probably would have had to stop the game via the mercy rule. Ha Ha.
Looks like to make this a fair game Drake better take one of their players off the court for awhile.

Drake leads 28-24 at half. The Gophers played very well to play Drake as close as they did at the half. Minnesota should be proud to be this close. I fully expected Drake to win this game by at least 20 but 30 or 40 is probably more realistic. HA HA :-) :-)
It seems like all the Coyotes opponents that don't look so good against them suddenly turn up their game after they get done playing the Yotes.

Northwestern leads Chicago State 83-21 in their game. No that is not Northwestern of Iowa but it might as well be. Douple are you watching them, I mean they are from a large market. They could be a travel partner of Western Illinois.

Minnesota wins 68-67 after Drake hits a desperation 3 at the buzzer. Minnesota players were dancing at the end and the crowd was going nuts in the last couple of minutes. At the SCSC the players were napping on the bench and the crowd was half gone by the last couple of minutes. Funny how it goes. Drake has been playing some good ball, except of course in one of their recent games. I think people don't realize just how good the Coyotes are.

For the record, my support for the autobid going to the regular season champion has nothing to do with the SLT in SF or any perceived unfairness. Truth is USD fans live here too and we could just as easily buy tickets and go. I am in favor of resetting the session passes and ending the grandfathering in that has gone on when UND enters the conference. Just call it starting over and everyone has a fair shot.
My support for the regular season champ has more to do with putting some oomph in the regular season. Winning the conference should mean something. Right now the games don't mean anything. Just don't finish last, get in the SLT, win 3 games, dance.
