Thought the same thing. I don't remember that being the case last year, was it? I like the new pic of Hurst with your comments. He went up over the top of a Drake player last night to dunk, but got a BS offensive foul call. Ever with the foul call, if he could've completed the dunk, that would've been epic! He was flying! Interesting that there were only 21 total personal fouls called in the game, though. 10 on us, 11 on them. So either it was a very clean game, or the refs were calling it loose and letting them play. (other than the foul you referenced)

Looks like their best player is 6-1 senior guard, Reed Timmer. Jersey #12 22.6 PPG (#15) 90.9% FT shooting (#50) 57.1% 3-PT shooting (#7) 50 FT made (#20) Looks like a job for Carlton... Timmer's game stats: 14pts 50% 3-pt shooting (2-4) zero FT attempts Triston Simpson also did a good job of defending him when it was his turn.

Hopefully we get some butts in the seats come conference play! this team is fun to watch, that 2nd half was probably the best half of basketball we have played all year. I love simpson's game, and he is so much better when he "loves the rim, likes the 3" as Craig loves to say. We are tough to defend when he is knocking down shots.

yoteforever--not to belabor the point but I stand by my statement that Drake is a very good team. They lost to Colorado by 5 on a neutral court and the Buffs are 7-1. They beat Wake Forest on a neutral court who has a win over Illinois--just to name a few examples. And even against the Yotes excellent D (the 2nd half) showed they can shoot the ball. The Coyote D was just much better and the Yotes also shot very well!

Attendence question: A coworker of mine was watching both games (USD Men / SDSU Women) on midco, and commented how many more fans appeared to be at the Women's game. I wasn't able to watch either, but to me, perception is important, especially on the TV broadcast. "Official" attendance for the Coyote men was 2101 vs 2068 for the Jacks women. I don't want to get into a discussion of padding attendance numbers, but I wonder why the discrepancy in appearance? Maybe the quality of opponent played a factor, with the Jacks playing Oklahoma and us Drake, but it is still WBB vs MBB. Maybe it is just a case of "sold seats" that people are not showing up for, especially on a weeknight? I also wonder if the camera angle plays a role. The area directly behind the benches are often half-full because they are reserved for visiting fans on one side/ family on the other (I think). If anyone has an idea, I'm just curious. I have seen a gradual improvement in official attendance numbers, but if we are sabotaging ourselves in perception by having empty seats down low where the camara sees, that doesn't help us much. It also isn't fair for the dedicated fans that actually ARE going to the games. Would it be that impolite if people moved down from their designated seat to open ones down lower? If the ticket-holder shows up, just move over. I've done that at Summit League Tournament games. Sorry to be a hypocrite, since I only go to a handful of basketball games, but I guess I am just puzzled by this.

No problem on defense of your position, I get it. The win over Wake Forest was a good upset. At the end of the year, I'm hoping you're right, and not me. My guess, and that's all it is, is they will be towards the bottom, if not the bottom of The Valley. My hope is im dead wrong and they are in the upper half of their league, then that truly indeed makes our win all the more impressive.
Either way, we played a fantastic second half last night. Beating a Valley team, good or not so good by nearly 30 is impressive. I'll admit the shape of the ball in this sport vs the other makes me an amateur at best. I do know they are fun to watch.
I hope you're correct sdyotefan, I really do.

Here is a great tweet by @sdcoyotesmbb showing the Hurst "almost" dunk/charging foul...

I love simpson's game, and he is so much better when he "loves the rim, likes the 3" as Craig loves to say. We are tough to defend when he is knocking down shots. That's really the issue we have is that the fans are apathetic at best, and the only time we get big numbers in seats is of we are playing a rival, or a big type tournament game like the women's WNIT run. That's really to bad, because we are the defending Summit League champs, and I think we have a great shot to defend that title. Same goes for the women. I've said it a thousand times. USD has never ever as long as I can recall had good football, really good men's basketball, good women's basketball and volleyball all at the same time. Summit League champs in men's basketball, women's basketball, and volleyball....and an NCAA 2nd round football team. That's impressive.

Here are highlights from both games to compare:
I can see why the perception is there. Frost looks full, SCSC not so much. Is it the design, or just butts in seats?

I know this is going to get ripped apart by a few posters with "welcome to D1 sports" etc. but people have been priced out of tickets. for a couple its minimum $500 for season tickets or $600 after the howling pack donation if you want any seats worth a crap. Single game tickets are not much better.
Simple supply and demand. USD is not in a huge metro area. fans not showing up when we have a winning product. supply and demand. lower prices. Having interest and fans in the seats is far more important then high ticket prices with a few fans that are willing to pay it.

Frost's seats are so far away from the court and behind the hoops, along with the breakup to the upper track where they don't even roll the bleachers out a lot of games that it looks much better on TV when its not full.

Sorry to be a hypocrite, since I only go to a handful of basketball games, but I guess I am just puzzled by this. The area behind the benches look empty because quite frankly, they are not the best seats. My family and I sit in row 7 behind the scorers table. When we were looking at season tickets, anyone sitting in row 4 and closer behind the benches and scorers table gets a lot of the court blocked. You can't actually see the closest half of the court because of the the people working at the table and the players sitting on the benches. When I see the highlights of the games on TV, usually you can only see the first 4 or 5 rows which aren't very full. Last night, the seats from about row 6 and above had quite a few people in them but that doesn't show on TV.

I am fairly certain that the actual butts in the seats was closer to 7 or 800 than to 2000 plus. section 116 is probably the most popular section and that struggles to get half full.
I don't think the price is keeping people away. aren't tickets only 15.00. that is a bargain considering the quality of basketball and quality of facility. I can see not getting season tickets but for the majority of games there are very good seats available.

I have season tickets, and I can see the expense argument. especially with this year's schedule But the flex plans are really cheap all things considered. For example, show up last night and sit wherever you want. I dont know the rules, but guessing they dont work for the sdsu game, since thats the only game our fans come to?
