Their video feed had a lot of twitter posts from fans. There were a few that were excited about this being their first Mavs game. Seems like they are doing a pretty good job generating interest, especially considering how bad the team is this year.

USD absolutely needs to start marketing their games. I wonder if it would be possible to get businesses to sponsor half time shows such as the Zooperstars etc a little more often or at all for that matter. $5.00 ticket giveaways isn't a horrible idea for walk up's on game day. The Coyotes have a great product to show and they do not utilize enough IMO. I know people hate it when I mention this but it is time to stop requiring Howling Pack donations for people to get the best seats available for season tickets. If people are willing to make that commitment that should get the best seat available that isn't already taken by a season ticket holder. Once the Coyotes average over 3K per game than they can start making stipulations on getting seats. Basketball tickets are not at demand so everything possible should be done to get people to commit to Coyotes basketball even if that means lowering the cost for season tickets. How about run a special just prior to the start of the season. Have a one day giveway of $100 season tickets for men's and women's basketball games but have it be after the normal period for people to buy at regular price expires. Not all these ideas may not be perfect ones but I don't think any idea is a bad one to talk about.

A Howling Pack membership is $100 a year for the minimum level. That's $8.33 a month. In other terms, for 6 home football games and roughly 15 home basketball games that comes to less than $5/game. The cost of membership is very low.
I get tired of you railing on Howling Pack membership. It's not like it is priced out of the reach of the common man and HP membership is an exclusive club for well healed donors. I think you need to give it a rest.
Priority seating is the way of the world in college athletics. USD is no different and the price to join the HP is not that high.

You realize if you offered $100 season tickets right before the season starts you would be giving a big middle finger to those who donate and pay full price for season tickets. What do you think would happen? Do you see a fatal flaw in your idea?

I like that "students can bring a friend for $5 deal". Maybe USD could make that a permanent thing for all games. Or make it 2 tickets so they could bring their parents. Even for the state game until the SCSC actually sells out on the west side behind the hoops.
Maybe that could be a benefit to season ticket holders too. Season ticket holders can buy discounted tickets for any game (minus the Wabbits). 50% discount? They are the ones that can really drive increasing attendance IMO.

During the NDSU game I was happy to see a team of 25 people from a HS there. Iowa I beleive. Not sure if USD ran a promo or not.

USD absolutely needs to start marketing their games.[...] shows such as the Zooperstars etc a little more often [...] I don't really have an opinion on ticket / season ticket pricing, but please don't disparage The Athletic Department's marketing. What I see from them is a concerted effort to get people to games, specifically students. While I'm sure there is more that can be done, there is obviously a serious effort to get students out to games. At the end of the day, its a culture change that needs to happen, and that can be difficult and slow sometimes. I see progress, not regression in the attendance numbers. I see marketing effort. I see outstanding, championship-level basketball being played. I see an arena that is the talk of the league. Basically, the AD has done everything humanly possible to improve attendance. If you want to point fingers, maybe start with the thumb.

I live in Vermillion right now, and I feel the university has done a good job of spreading the word around town. I can not speak for their efforts in the surrounding area. I currently feel like the majority of the crowd is from Vermillion. Driving down from Sioux Falls for a weeknight basketball game is a tough sell, but there's got to be a lot of untapped potential in Yankton. What's the presence like over there?

The Baxter Arena discussion in another thread got me wondering about how they priced their season tickets. I found a source, wrote it down, but lost the link. Here are their prices for season tickets 2017-18:
$115 Mens' corner $175 Men's center court $500 Men's courtside
$70 Women's (all lower bowl) $150 Women's Courtside
I don't know how this compares to USD, but it is interesting. Also, they have Hockey revenue to possibly offset costs. They may have offered a few gate ticket promotions, like USD has, as well.

MBB played at UNO last night. It was a Saturday night game, and it is in a big population center, both of which help, of course. But UNO hoops typically doesn't draw too well, and the team is 7-15 right now. But last night's attendance was over 3,000. What struck me, however, was that the corners and ends of the lower level were really full. And everyone knows those seats stink in a hockey-arena-set up. I was curious if they ran a promo for those seats, and couldn't find one. But here is their standard ticket pricing: Center Court Adult - $16, Youth - $10 Lower Bowl Corner Adult - $10 Youth - $5 Lower Bowl G.A. Adult - $5 Youth - $3 UNO & UNMC students can bring one guest for $5 For WBB, all adult tix are $8 and youth $5. TL,DR: You can catch a game for $5, and they are getting people to go to games in a market where they are 3rd-fiddle (at best). I like that approach. Reposting from after we played there in MBB, since it included the game day prices too.
