They can add the Donald as the 4th member of that photo :-) Those are all commies. Donald is far from Communist. Please keep your politics off this message board. Guessing we don't all share the same political beliefs, but most of us love the Yotes

With just over 4 mins left, this has been a sound thrashing today by the Lady Yotes. I can't say we even played that good today. Still seeing lots of room for improvement, but congrats on a good win on VERY cold day. Pretty good fan turnout for the game today as well. The doubleheader helps I'm sure.

Duffy played very very well today, with 24 points and 10 rebounds. But this Denver team is not that good. We also played much of the second half without one of the two posts, and played much better that way. It will be interesting to see if we can do that against bigger and better teams.

I think we need to give the Coyotes credit today. Last year Denver came in and played the Coyotes right down to the end. I agree that they aren't the best team but the Coyotes threw the hammer down on them so can't fault the Yotes much for the performance today. The Coyotes offense is still a work in progress but they have been getting quite a few inside looks the last couple of games, especially today. It looks like the further into the season it gets the shallower the depth seems to be becoming. There is one player that is very painful to watch that needs to be on the pine but for whatever reason continues to get decent minutes.

I thought the Lamb noise "baaaaaahhh" when Lamb entered the game or did something good was cool. I hope she is ok with it because it creates a nice laugh. Hopefully that new tradition will continue.

If Jaycee Bradley can get her confidence in her shot back it will go a long way to helping this team.

Easmus has got this right. And I actually think Jaycee's struggles have part of the reason we haven't been as good this year versus last. We need her to start shooting better if we want to compete with the best in the conference.

To Jaycee's defense I don't think she has been setup to get good shots off. It seemed like last year the Coyotes were taking open threes and that hasn't been the case as much this year. I don't really seeing the team trying to set her up much. The Coyotes game this year tends to focus on isolation and getting player to exploit one on one matchups to get to the rim. I don't think that necessarily fits into Bradley's strengths.

Some post-game comments from Coach P:
On the overall game: " I thought that was a very quality win for our ladies. I thought they came out of the gates... and really established themselves on both ends of the court. They defended well, got some turnovers early...
... Then we got into the second quarter and didn't do as well defensively and Denver can really shoot it. Denver is a team that statistically does a phenomenal job of getting arc shots and hitting them... They average 9 makes a game, 14 offensive rebounds a game....
... After half time I thought our kids settled back in to playing solid defensively, and played very well...
Q: What changed from the first to second quarters? "It's a good question. I don't know exactly what changed. Its interesting because I heard some fans behind me and fans in front of me telling our kids to get some ball pressure, and I'm thinking: Yeah. They're right, because if you give Denver some space, they make shots. Fortunately in the second half we came out with some pressure scenarios and did a much better job. So, I don't know the answer to that."
Q: It seemed that the half-court offense at the start and in the second half really produced a lot of quality shots... [couldn't hear the rest of the quesiton] "I thought what Denver did (this is really hard for teams like us to adjust to all the time) is ... They went from a switching man-to-man to a non-switching man-to-man, and that changes how we move. It changes our dynamic. Then they went into a zone, then back into a switching m2m.
I say it's hard for this reason: Our players have been in this motion offense for a little over a year. To understand how to change the angle of your screens, how to look for different scenarios, ... I certainly give our players a lot of credit, because that's tough to do."

More post-game from Coach P:
On Ciara's double-double: "I thought Ciara played extremely extremely well. I thought she did a lot of nice things facilitating our offense, and she hit some open shots, hit some deep shots... but then defensively to rebound the way she did was really impressive... our kids did a great job, we held Denver to six offensive rebounds, but it felt like they were sixteen offensive rebounds, because every one they got they seemed to score out of that possession. But I thought she (Ciara) played really hard and really well for us.
Q: For Madison, there were a couple of games before Christmas that weren't up to her normal standard. And then she comes out and has that great start.. "Maddie gave us a great spark at the beginning of this game, on both ends of the court. Branden Johnson's a really talented, tough kid to guard, but she did a good job early on. But also not just guarding one kid. We talked about doing more in our defense. So (you) have to be there to help lend assistance. I thought defensively is where she really made things happen, but offensively got to the rim, made good decisions, made good shots. I thought she ... played very very well for us.
On the schedule and layoff: "Your non-conference is intended to prepare you for your conference.... The way that Denver plays, the way that they space, how they shoot, has actually been really tough for us to guard up until this game. We saw this with Tulsa. Tulsa kind-of played the same type of style. Stephen F. Austin runs a different offense, but has a lot of the same principles. And we struggled in those scenarios. (in this game) I thought our players came out with great intensity and great awareness, and did a really nice job defensively."

I don't think that necessarily fits into Bradley's strengths. I would like to see more ball movement as well. This comes back to the problems mentioned earlier regarding no point guard. Arens and McKeever are not point guards and neither passes particularly well, and Duffy played that role last year but is now playing inside. Maybe one of the Freshman would be better at setting up/passing?

Bradley is playing about seven fewer minutes a night this year and taking fewer shots. That can be tough on a shooter, especially when some other players (Trimboli and Lamb) are taking some of her minutes and McKeever is also playing a bigger role.
It's very much what I hinted at earlier on a different thread. Roles are different on this team and while it may not look like a huge difference numbers-wise for Bradley, it is a difference.
That understanding that your minutes are a little tighter can enter your mind ... but I'd bet she's going to figure it out and hit some big shots yet this season as everybody settles in.

why would mckeever not be the point guard? she does very well bringing the ball up court and has good handles. she is the person I would want both with the ball and guarding the ball on D. She is crafty and if it came down to a player being pressured in a late game situation I would feel the best with her guarding the rock. if anything she is the best pure point guard on the team.
I do agree that everyone could work on their passing.

I do agree that everyone could work on their passing. I agree that she has great handles and is certainly our best defender. But she's not a point guard. She's more naturally an attacker and shooting guard. She doesn't see the floor very well (part of this might be due to her size) and also isn't fantastic at passing out of her drives. I think she's a solid player. I just disagree that she's a point guard, and far from a pure point guard.

I agree MadMac isn’t a point guard. She turns the ball over too much for me, and doesn’t do a great job of dishing off after beating her defender if help comes to stop her. She benefits greatly when able to hit the arc shot, because she in the past she was the player the opponent would leave open and live with it if she makes it. For my taste I would love to see not just her but more players in general willing to hit the pull-up mid-range jumper. Almost the old folding chair at the block shot used in summer camps. But with Madison’s stature, how many times do we see her drive to the block only to get her shot blocked or go in a shell and look for someone to kick the ball out. Just beat the defender then pull up inside the FT line before the help D gets their and make the jumper. Everything doesn’t have to be a 3 or layup.
I think Lamb or one of the other freshman is who rhey want as a true PG. Lamb played less than previously though as Madison was playing better Saturday.
