Scores from Sat Dec 30th
Denver 71 at South Dakota 82 Omaha 74 at Oral Roberts 93
I would have never expected Oral Roberts to ever win a Summit game by that margin this year and I doubt they come close to matching that kind of a margin again. Omaha is brutal. Now they don't play defense or score. At least they used to be able to score. They lost their heart and soul and a drop off was expected but gosh this has been like falling off a cliff for them.
Wednesday the Jacks play at the Bison and the Coyotes host Western Illinois.
It would sure be nice if NDSU could play their game of the year to knock off the Black and yellow squad. Their might be some blue in their somewhere.

Watching the bunnies play at Omaha... Seems like everything the bunnies throw up, it goes in. Killing the Mavs.
Omaha announcers have made some some very humorous, and also truthful remarks during the game.
Funniest: one announcer to the other - "Seems like Tellinghousen has been in brookings forever... seriously, he's been there at least 8 years... right?"
Most truthful: "Seems like all Daum has to do is make a move in the paint and officials automatically call a foul whether the opposing player has made contact or not."
You could even see the Mavs coach ask the official at one point how his guy is supposed to stop Daum without getting a foul called when Daum lowers his shoulder and drives the lane.
There's no question the bunnies look tough... but they do get EVERYTHING called in their favor... even when playing teams other than the Yotes.

Well we do have to consider that half of Douple's salary is being paid out by the Athletic Department at State College. Of course as part of that agreement Daum will get all the calls. USD was becoming too big of a threat to the Jacks at the Jackrabbit Invitational last year so they had to have an emergency meeting at halftime to make sure the officiating was doing their job and certainly they did everything they could to ensure the Jacks won. Why else would Douple continue to do nothing to have fair policies regarding seating at the conference tourney. Why else could Douple care less if two-thirds of the conference would like to see the tourney move out of Sioux Falls out of fairness. It seems like Douple didn't care much at all that IUPUI left and he will take whatever school into the conference that will not put up an argument against the tourney in Sioux Falls. That is likely why the Summit will never move forward. I am kind of hoping that Denver, Omaha, W Illinois or whoever will continue to look at other options. Basically I want the Summit to fall apart for the good of the future for conference affiliation for the Coyotes.

If its possible Part of the post was a bit sarcastic but 11 straight fouls is 11 straight fouls and against a team (the Yotes) that was and is one of the best teams in the nation getting to the foul line because of the way they play. Douple needs job security so he is going to do what is best for him before doing what is best for the majority of the league. The officiating completely changed the complexion of that game. It has been known for quite awhile that Daum gets more then his fair share of the calls when it involves him in the play. I say let's have a talk with NDSU and UND and try to form something new and better that doesn't revolve around one event. Let the Jacks and about 9 other NAIA or D2 move ups have their tourney in Sioux Falls.

If its possible I was being sarcastic... Do I really think there is a conspiracy? Heck no. Just making light of Daum always getting away with everything. Also, I never mentioned Douple. Quit lumping me in with the tin foil hat wearers. Learn to realize sarcasm when you see it.

NDSU move up to an FBS league, SDSU take the Valley slot, since the new rumor is the MVC are interested in SDSU alone. USD and UND "create" their own league. It may be the only way you "earn" a trip to the NCAA tourney. The above is all sarcastic, CoyoteFan, you truly need to get a grip on life, and reality.

FWIW years back longtime bball official Collin Capitan did a Q&A on KWSN about what officials are looking for in a game, it was very informative I wish everybody could have listened to him, including last nights announcers. In Daum's situation the official will allow the person driving with the ball to use his shoulder to create space, it's when the driver extends his arm to push off that's when it is called a foul. Another example is a guard driving with the ball with his arm extended, the official is watching the angle of the elbow, at a 90 degree angle no foul extend the arm he is now pushing off. It was a very informative interview, I think Cappy could have talked for hours, also was great for fans to listen to. BTW thanks for watching last nights game in Omaha, your support is appreciated, j/k j/k.

One of the more wild schedule situations is scheduling games with USD/SDSU for week nights. Last year's trip to the SCSC was a great venue to watch a game. Saturdays and Sundays would be better for attendance to be higher. The same goes for Fargo. The league did avoid scheduling the men and women on same day and time. Meanwhile, it appears the bison MBB is not ready to check out of the conference race. There could be at least 4 teams slugging it out for the top seeds.

I can see exactly why you posted that last sentence because there are two realities, the SDSU reality and the everybody else reality. I clearly fall outside your bubble.

I am a little too lazy to post all the scores but Oral Roberts looks real big to me on the court when I watched a little of their game against NDSU. They look big in their dark uni's and the darker color shouldn't make them look as big as the home white's would. NDSU pulled away at the end to win but the Eagles played good for the whole game against SDSU and for over a half against NDSU and both were road games. They didn't get any wins but they passed the eye test and will be far from an easy game for the Coyotes this week.
The way things are going it is still going to be all SDSU at the Summit tourney this year. Neither of their teams have yet to lose and their women just won a big one down at ORU. I foresee both of their teams getting to the NCAA tourney again. I have gone to many games at the Summit Tourney and never had a truly great walk after a game. When the women beat SDSU and Denver to get to the tourney I was unable to be there.
For the Coyotes to win they are going to have to be double digits better and neither of our teams are that much better. I love both of our teams but they are unlikely to come out of Sioux Falls with a title as both will likely fall in the championship game to the Jacks. The Summit is probably the toughest mid major conference to get to the tourney if you are not named SDSU. I think the USD women will be in the WNIT again and the men may or may not but something like the CBI might be more realistic. If the Coyotes were in the Big Sky I think the women would have multiple tourney berths by now and the men would have probably 1. The Summit League is at it's best when the Jacks continue to win. They fill up the place and them winning is good for the League and for Douple, no matter how much I dislike it or want the Coyotes in a different league.

It's a little early to be crowning a champ, don't you think? You're right that the Jacks are looking the part now, but it's a long season. Why can't you just enjoy the fact that with both of our teams we are major contenders?
It's a good thing you aren't the one out there playing. Teams and athletes with that mentality are perennial losers. Upsets happen on the court every day, but not if you throw in the towel early.
