I didn't realize their best player is a freshman. His performance would have been halved with Carlton out there though.

JVG just said that Hurst might be out the rest of the regular season.

I am going to say this right now. "WINNING PROGRAMS DO NOT HARP OR MAKE EXCUSES FOR INJURIES" and the Coyotes are a winning program. We can talk about Hurst till we are blue in the face and I am disappointed in it but lets not start talking like the season is going downhill because of him being out. That is reserved for LOSING programs because any good coach or team is going to have other players waiting to step in. Craig Smith already said on the post game interview that it is a next man up situation. I have much confidence in our bench and the guys will step up. NDSU just won a football championship and they have faced their fair share of injuries.
I love this basketball team and they are built around a system, defense and effort so I think the Coyotes can survive this better than most teams could.
As a side note I was pretty impressed with Jech today. He looked as good as he has for awhile but honestly he really hasn't had much of a chance. Just when I am about to label him a bust he shows a pulse and he did today. I wouldn't mind about 8 minutes a game from him.

Smith confirmed that Carlton broke his hand. He has been my favorite player since his debut here, I don't want to believe I've seen his last stale demeanored slam dunk.

For whatever reason Jech always seems to find his way into Smith’s dog house and never gets steady playing time. Hopefully, today he earned some trust back. His situation reminds me of Flack’s junior year when he was barely getting playing time after he was fully recovered from his injuries. Flack didn’t play any non conference games, and then played solid ball the second half of Summit league play once he got a chance to prove he was a man amongst boys. We are going to need a lot more than 8 minutes per game from him if our Masked Man keeps shooting 20%.

If #22 plays like that all year, NDSU is going to be really good.
We saw the return of the scoring drought again today - thought that was worked out last year. Even with shaky D and an unreal performance from the NDSU shooters, if the scoring drought wasn't so drastic, it still would have been a W.

That sucks about Hurst. I feel today's loss combined with losing Hurst makes winning the conference very unlikely. We did not have a lot of margin for error this year with the way state is playing. Hopefully we can play our best in the conference tournament.

The Bison just have a knack to hit big shots when they need to. They did that and added plenty of other makes when they didn't need them as badly. The Bison have always been this way and not just against the Coyotes. They can look very average but they just suffocate you on defense. There is a reason they have been to multiple NCAA tourneys. The Bison probably won't repeat that kind of a performance in the rematch in Fargo. Not that they will just hand the Coyotes over a win but if the Coyotes play in Fargo like they did today they can certainly return the favor. The visiting team has won at least 3 in a row in the series. Fort Wayne just handled Denver fairly easily in Denver today so that will be an interesting game against them coming up in Fort Wayne. One of the big reasons for the conference title last year was because of the win in Fort Wayne which came directly after a game in Fargo. The games at TCU, Duke and UCLA can come in very handy when they visit Fort Wayne. Not that it is a must win but if the Coyotes want to repeat they better get one on the Mastodons home floor.

Losing Hurst will hurt considerably. The team just played its worst consecutive games since the 2015 season in my opinion. I think we have to remember the season is a marathon, not a sprint. Last year we were handling Omaha only to completely humiliate ourselves in the second half. Omaha went on to the summit league finals in March. It’s next man up. There is plenty of ball left to play and very much to be optimistic about.

As they say "defense travels". Looking forward very definitely to the next few games to see what the Coyotes are made of and am confident the Yotes will rebound.
