I haven't done this yet this year but the time will probably never be better to post this.
Here is the race for the best basketball schools (men and women) in the Summit after games played on 1/25/18.
South Dakota 13-1 - just unreal and went from 1 back to 1 ahead in this race after last 2 nights South Dakota St 10-2 - top 2 an unbelievable 23-3 combined with only 1 total loss not between the two of them Oral Roberts 7-7 Western Illinois 6-7 Denver 6-8 North Dakota St 4-8 Fort Wayne 4-9 Omaha 3-11
Only 2 schools over .500

if that is the case than people need to show it. unfortunately the world revolves upon negativity. the news, politics or whatever. negativity and controversy sells. no one watches movies or shows where everyone lives happily ever after. they want to see conflict and struggle.

If the Summit League Tournament started after tonight here is how it would look
Men
#1 SDSU vs #8 Western Illinois #2 USD vs #7 Omaha - I think a comfortable matchup #3 Denver vs #6 Oral Roberts - I am giving Denver the tie breaker because of their win in Fargo and against USD #4 NDSU vs #5 Fort Wayne - I am giving NDSU the nod because of their win against USD
Women
#1 USD vs #8 Fort Wayne - Could USD win playing their bench the entire game #2 SDSU vs #7 NDSU - not sure if NDSU loses the tie breaker over Omaha #3 WIU vs #6 Omaha #4 ORU vs #5 Denver - ORU might be scarier than WIU right now

Coyote women can clinch a top 2 seed in SLT with a win at FW Wednesday. They would have a 3 game lead on Western with 3 to play and holding the tiebreaker.
Coyote men getting close to clinching a top 2 seed, beating FW Thursday is a huge step towards it. Would have 3 game lead on FW with a tiebreaker.

Anyone want to buy my Summit League tickets for Sunday? It's clear that I won't need them.

Anyone want to buy my Summit League tickets for Sunday? It's clear that I won't need them. Hold out hope Western women sneak into the 2 seed. Then those Sunday afternoon tickets will become worth something.

Anyone want to buy my Summit League tickets for Sunday? It's clear that I won't need them. Hold out hope Western women sneak into the 2 seed. Then those Sunday afternoon tickets will become worth something. The only way that would happen is if the Jacks lose to WIU, and USD plus a third team. I don't see all three of those things happening. If SDSU and WIU both had 3 conference losses, they would also have identical conference records. Then it would go to the RPI, as Coyote Fan broke down in a different thread. It's possible but not likely. At this point the two SD teams have a virtual lock on the top two seeds, assuming there aren't multiple major upsets. On the women's side, I just don't see that happening. 1 vs 2 will come down to the final game in "Red Square".

Because of WIU beating ORU the way they did in their head to head matchups it is probably a good idea that the Yotes hold onto that #1 seed and probably face a tough ORU team but maybe a more predictable ORU team. WIU can be very mediocre or very good. I am not sure if I want to take that chance in the 2nd round. WIU is going to make their opponent run a lot so let the Jacks wear themselves out against them whether it is as the 2 or 3 seed. Doesn't matter a whole lot to me really how they are seeded as long as the Yotes are #1. WIU can do the Yotes a huge favor by knocking off the Jacks.

They lost again today, sitting at 4-7 in league play. It's been 3 years since they won their NCAA tourney game and they clearly weren't able to build on it at all.

Standings with 3 games to play (4 for UNO and WIU):
1. sdsu 10-1 2. USD 9-2 3. IPFW 5-6 (swept Denver for tiebreaker) 4. Denver 5-6 5. UNO 4-6 6. NDSU 4-7 (win against USD for tiebreaker over ORU) 7. ORU 4-7 8. WIU 2-8
The South Dakota schools have clinched the top 2 seeds. Barring unexpected losses this coming week the 1 seed will be settled in Brookings. I don't know that there is any actual advantage to the 1 seed this year - I would replay anyone from the middle of the pack again without reservation - but with the 1 comes pride and a guaranteed consolation of the NIT if things go wrong.
The only other thing I can say with any certainty is that WIU will probably be the 8 seed again. 1 game separates the 5 teams in the middle of the pack.
UNO started 2-6 in conference play, a 0.25 winning percentage in the backend of conference play, and still controls their destiny for the 3 seed. That's where we are at this year.

If USD WBB win Saturday, and Western beats SDSU USD should clinch the regular season title because we swept Western. If SDSU beats Western, the State game next week will be for the title. If SDSU were to win at the SCSC and tie us @ 13-1, State would win the tiebreaker because they have the better RPI.
