The Coyotes didn't have as difficult of a time with ORU as the Jacks had with them. This was basically a 20 point game into garbage time. I believe the final score was 82-70.

Great game by the 'Yotes, maybe their best of the year. ORU has a lot of potential and if they'd concentrate more on playing and less on jawing they could be a force, but will definitely be a team to be reckoned with come tournament time. They're huge inside with good post up games and a couple of good three point shooters who were hot tonight and we still prevailed. I thought managing to stay even with them on the boards was one key to the win and the full court pressure was both effective a fun to watch. Haven't seen much of Josh Doss, but he did a very nice job on the defensive end. Maybe he'll step up in Hurst's place for now and when he comes back we're all the stronger and deeper for it.

ORU is improving this year at a fast rate which I am sure has much to do with the new coach. They gave the Jacks a tough game at Frost, more so than most teams do. If the Jacks do get the #1 seed maybe ORU can slide into that 4 vs 5 slot.
Overall I think the Coyotes should be trying to win the regular season but also getting ready for the tourney. I hope Smith just keeps rolling the bench out and by the time Hurst gets back hopefully the team will be at minimum 9 deep. The hope is that the Coyotes are in the opposite bracket and the Jacks have 2 tough games to get to the final. Hopefully the Coyotes have more in the tank by Tuesday (assuming they get there which is a huge assumption since that has never happened before) If the Jacks are tired defense and shooting are the first to go. The Jacks rely on shooting and are not a lock down defensive team anyway. To their credit they don't have to work as hard on offense since they take so many three pointers. T.J. is a modern thinking coach because I agree with the notion of taking many 3 point shots and if not than it should be lay ups. I know some people like mid range jumpers but those can be the lowest percentage shots and they only count for 2.

I will be interested to see how we fare at ORU. The thing I was most impressed with is that we beat them without having to make a bunch if 3’s. If you play a zone team and penetrate it that is huge. Because remember a game like USD WBB played against Omaha in the SLT. They couldn’t penetrate (or wouldn’t) the zone so just kept cranking 3’s and bricking them. 2 weeks before they blew them out at home doing the same thing. Not only did we beat their zone last night without many 3’s attempted, we got a primarily zone team to switch to man in the 2nd half because they couldn’t get stops. That is huge. So yes ORU does scare me in the SLT, and I think we all agree USD and SDSU being on opposite sides of the bracket is best.
