I could see UW-Green Bay being a job that Dawn would consider leaving for. Perennial power, close to home, a place she previously coached at (though she makes more money here than they are paying their 14th year head coach). And coaching in the Big Ten would be very difficult for anyone to turn down.
But I agree that the roots Dawn is building here probably mean she's going to be in Vermillion for a while. What mother would give up the chance to see their child play right up the road?

The Gophers are currently 17-5 and on the verge of their third 20-win season in the last four years. I really don't think that's a coach on the hot seat.

Borseth is 63 so maybe he retires but I don't know why else GB would be looking for a coach anytime soon.

If you follow the gophers fan boards, at Gopherhole.com, you will see that the fans are suggesting people chip in money to buy out her contract. I know it is tongue-in-cheek, but Gophers fans really do not like Stollings. The list of suggested replacement coaches is pretty funny.

When they made that hire, I thought it was a big mistake because they were allegedly considering A.J. He would have been a slam dunk, IMO because he already recruits Minnesota well, and is a good coach. My good friend that is a Gophers fan thought that they made hiring a woman a priority after the AD sexting scandal. My friend is a bit sexist, though, so take that with a grain of salt. Sounds like she is doing well, though. To me, I'm surprised that the Big Ten doesn't have the WBB championship history that it does in Volleyball. The athletes are here in the upper midwest. I think that is one of the reasons SDSU, USD, Green Bay etc. have had the success they have had. Call it a stereotype if you want, but hard-working, unselfish players are a hallmark of the upper midwest. And height. Coach P actually mentioned that when she was hired, but not in so many words to be offensive.

Not to denigrate what I'm sure are some highly-connected boosters and alumni posting about women's basketball on Gopherhole.com, but I don't know if I'd be terribly worried about them if I'm Coach Stollings. I'd be much more concerned about keeping my alums like Whalen, McCarville and Banham in my corner.

No, but having recently gone through the recruiting process with my daughter here in Minnesota, I can tell you that out of her very talented class two years ago, the U of M did not try to recruit any of the girls. Those very talented players are now playing for other Big Ten schools and elsewhere in the nation, and for rhe most part are making a difference on their teams. Stollings prefers to let MN girls sign elsewhere, and then bring them back home as transfers later on.

“The Gophers are an absolutely amazing school. They have great coaches. They’ve done amazing things over the course of the past year. They RECRUITED ME REALLY, REALLY HARD. It was really hard to say no.”

These are the kinds of weird/unnecessary debates we get when there isn't a real game this weekend. Thanks IUPUI.

I stand corrected - I was unaware of Nia’s offers, However, from spending 4 years with the other North Tartan parents, I can say there was quite a bit of talk about MN, and not much of it was good.

I don't doubt that at all. Parents who think their kids are better than they are (which is 95 percent of them) often like to talk bad about the people and places that don't recognize their kids' obvious talents.
Occasionally the parents are right. But more often than not, they're just parents who know a lot less than they think they do.
