UNO: 8-18; 4-7 SL; 1-13 on the road; KenPom #262; won 2 of last 3; KP has their defense ranked #326 (ouch)
Yotes: 23-6, 10-2 SL; 12-1 @ home; KenPom #66; won 9 of last 10 & have scored 80 or more in 7 of those games
KenPom Prediction: UNO 69 Yotes 88
(KP likes the Yotes O vs. UNO's shaky D) ESPN's BPI gives USD a 95.1% chance of winning.

With Smith probably goign to Colorado St next year this could be his last home game. Hopefully we have a good crowd there to show our appreciation of where he has brought our program. I also hope we are able to find some good playing time for our seniors. That was a good article in the Argus the other day about those guys. Sound like quality men.

It's a little early to be throwing speculation out there just enjoy the rest of the season.

Little ahead of yourself, aren't you, or do you have inside information? I saw a list of prospective candidates on a Colorado State site and yes, Smith's name was among the nine mentioned, as was Otz's. Some of them had longer and better resumes than either Smith or Otz (not even going to try and spell his name).

He's gonna most likely get an interview, and if he gets an interview I think we all know he's going to get the job. I wasn't trying to break news here, I figured we all knew this. I mainly was hoping for a good showing on Saturday. Believe me, I hope I'm wrong. There is noone on this board that would be more upset to lose Smith than me.

I agree... We all need to prepare ourselves for the inevitable. If not this year, then next year for sure. It's the nature of being at the bottom of the Div I tier and producing top quality coaches. We are merely a stepping stone for those with higher aspirations and deeper pockets.

Man, lets save this for after the season, which is still over a month away...for USD anyway

I said to friends before the season that this would be Smith's last year here, but to bring it up on the public forum during the season just isn't productive. It's best to save this discussion for when we have nothing else to discuss.

I also don't want to say much about it either but if there was one thing I wish the Jacks would beat the Coyotes in, it would be that their basketball coach would be considered more desirable and to be hired over Smith for the job. That is nothing against Smith but stated out of pure selfishness. Can we just have one season where Smith doesn't come up in rumors.

Here is an interesting fact for this game: it is the 1st SL weekend game while classes are in session....and it comes on a long weekend when the students are gone.
What are the chances for a team (in any conference) to never have a game where both the students and the alumni/fans are able to come in large numbers?

We might have had one last weekend, if not for IUPUI, but it does seem like the conference deliberately made the worst schedule possible. The school dropped the ball too though. The non-conference schedule in Vermillion was atrocious. I saw Grambling State and Drake. Missed the EWU game and don't acknowledge the (FIVE!) non-D1 games. What kind of non-conference schedule is that?

I would think teams like northern Iowa should be ready to do a home and home now that it looks like we have passed them up.

Welcome to the reality of a mid major. If you improve the difficulty of your schedule than that involves playing multiple games against Power teams where there is no return game so there is already a missed opportunity for home games out of the home for home pool. The 3 games in Sioux Falls take away at least half of the desirable home opponents as well. This is exactly one of the reasons that I think the Summit League should try to expand to a 12 team league and start taking input from the schools about what they would like in scheduling. As Coyote fans other than the Summit Tourney being in Sioux Falls (which from a winning stand point has not actually been that favorable to the Coyotes) what is the Summit League really doing for USD to make it a desirable league.
I know it is easier said than done but having a 12 team league helps with scheduling as well and helps put an insurance policy down against programs like IUPUI pulling out at a moments notice from the league. BTW I absolutely don't blame IUPUI one bit for their decision to leave as they did. The writing was on the wall for them just as it likely is for Fort Wayne. A 12 team league gives the Coyotes 11 quality home games. If the scheduling was done to keep the men and women playing together there is no reason that USD couldn't have several double headers instead of what I consider 2. There was only 2 double headers all year where both teams played quality opponents. I believe there was one where the Men had an opponent that counted as an exhibition game.
After this year I believe the AD's (and president's if need be) need to get together at a meeting at a central location (and maybe they already do this) and discuss these issues. It's not like these things are small items that don't really need to be addressed. This is for the better health of the basketball programs. There is absolutely no excuse for the scheduling issues and no excuse for the lack of information coming out of the Summit League Office regarding expansion ideas.
The Bottom line is that the schools in the Summit League need a league office that is working for them and their best interests. On the surface it certainly doesn't appear that is happening.

Team can play much better than that. If we perform like that again on Thursday it's probably a loss. Still counts as a win. One more and it's another 1 seed in the conference tournament.
