Same as the UMKC poll. Forgot to add an "other" choice. Oh well.

Definitely not D1 material. Then there is the selfish interest of having less competition for area recruits and fans. I'd rather recruit any random private D2 school in Iowa or Minnesota, or a Minnesota public, instead.

If they bring FCS scholarship football with them I would be ok with it but since they won't do that I do not support it either. We need to join with like minded institutions. The closest option to that would be that they are not D1 material for what the Summit should want to try to become.

The rumor I heard this weekend was that Sanford offered up a cool $100+ million endowment to go D1 without football. I have little doubt that they would look to essentially buy a school's sports teams (fits their ego profile anyway) but the number seems overkill. But it wouldn't surprise me if those conversations are taking place to figure out specifics.

I could see Sanford wanting to be affiliated with Augie's nursing program just like it has a relationship with USD's med school. The nursing program is a good one, and proximity to the Sanford main campus is probably a plus. Just speculation on my part. Maybe they see it as a win-win with the nursing program and the Athletics/Sanford name obsession. The Endowment might be for both? That's an insane amount of money. The current total endowment for Augie is $67 Mil.

Why would Sanford want Augie in D1? Where would that benefit them? Also how keen is Augie on dropping football only a few years after building a pretty nice new stadium? I just don't see it happening.

I just don't see it happening. They could go non-scholarship and join the Pioneer League with Drake. I'm not saying it's a great idea, just a possibility. Scheduling one or two games a year vs USD or SDSU as a home game would draw quite a crowd, which brings $$ and purpose to the stadium. However, pioneer league games wouldn't bring the same level of interest, so it's a trade-off. Maybe they could still schedule Northern Sun teams as non-conference?

I just don't see it happening. That would be the big question for me. How would they drop football when they just opening what really is a nice stadium? I would think that would more than piss off a donors who contributed to its construction. I don't see USD or SDSU playing there either. It's not big enough to hold the crowd just being one of the reasons.

I just don't see it happening. You must not attend Augustana basketball games. One prominent Sanford employee sits court-side 50-yd line at the big basketball games, at least he was the last time I was in the arena. I’m sure this individual would much rather watch USD and SDSU play ball than Winona and Upper Iowa.

Sanford is trying to buy everything else in the Dakotas, it would be no surprise whatsoever if they were the benefactor behind this speculated move.
There's no way the 4 Dakota schools would approve a Summit invite, right? Augie can go to the WAC if they are desperate to move.

Anyone that thinks there is no connection between Augie and Sanford/Kelby is just not well informed.
Kelby’s son Joe is married to the daughter of Bill Gross. Gross is currently the interim AD at Augie. Bill Gross played basketball at Augustana, was the head coach of Augustana’s men’s basketball team for 9 years and was the Athletic Director for 28 years before stepping down in 2014. He returned to the AD role after Slade Larscheid stepped down.
Also, Kelby’s daughter played basketball one year at Augie before transferring. And the third kid played on Augie’s football team I believe.

It appears that Sanford Hospital is already collaborating with Augie (And USD) in the creation of two masters-level Genetics degrees. This is old news, just something I hadn't paid attention to. It's part of the "Imagenetics" program. The endowment might be related to that, as well.
