NW scores 9 of the last 10 points in the match and win 3-1.
Still a promising start to the season, I think. 3-of-6 starters were Freshmen:
OH Jenna Wagemester (true frosh) 2nd most attempts 5-4 on 29 attempts, 3 blocks MB Emily Grathoff (6'-3") 7 blocks! S Madison Jurgens 3-1 on 9 attempts, 30 assists, 1 ace, 7 digs, 2 blocks
I'm not good at judging how well a setter is placing the ball, but the fact that we were in this match is a good sign. Also, Jurgens is 5'-9" and had 2 blocks. That's impressive, I think. Seems to be a well-rounded player.
Wilson hit very well. Dotseth didn't, but also had 2 assists, 2 aces, 12 digs and a block! I think if Dotseth hits better in that match, we win it. It might have something to do with the setter-hitter familiarity? We out-blocked them 11-6, so there's that.
All-in all, a promising start.

Coyotes beat host school 3-0 in dominant fashion. Hit .224 for the match and had 11 blocks. Milwaukee hit .027 with only 4 blocks. The final match tomorrow against New Hampshire should be a good one. Nice win ladies

So the Yotes went 2-1 last weekend, and IMO look really good for a freshman-laden team. I think they will keep getting better throughout the season, and will be a factor in the conference tournament.
This conference has suddenly gotten a lot more competitive with the consistency of Denver, the rise of USD over the last few years, the rise of UNO possible this year, and the addition of a championship-caliber team in UND this year. If NDSU can get back to winning this could become a premier mid-major WVB conference. UND had an average of over 1,400 fans at home last year, and NDSU and UNO have had similar numbers in the recent past. USD is on an upward trajectory as well, and an average of over 800 this year would not shock me. Things are looking up for the potential of this sport in this region and conference.
Another factor for USD is the proximity to recruiting this High School VB-rich region. South Dakota high schools are a little more focused on Girl's Basketball, but Nebraska and Minnesota produce so much VB talent that the big D-1 schools can't get them all. Same is true for Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois. It's like being a smaller school in the south for football. The talent is there, you just have to have good coaching to go along with it. And I think we do.

First ever D-1 VB tournament hosted by USD. Cal should be a draw, and the Yotes have a decent shot in that game, I think. Live stream, live stats, and audio will be available for all the games.

Cal is a traditionally good program in a traditionally elite conference, but last year they finished the year with 8 straight losses. They didn't win a single set in that span. The coach is now gone, and they are led by a longtime assistant. Sounds like they are young, as well. That is little comfort, though, because they recruit at a high level. Hopefully we are catching them at a good time, experience-wise.

I’m driving over to watch the Cal match then heading to Manhattan Saturday. What a great time of the year.
I’ve said this before. If you’ve never watched a volleyball match before come watch our ladies Friday night. You’ll be hooked. And they are a great bunch of gals.

I’m going to tonight’s match vs. Cal. Anyone else?
Let’s lead an effort to get fans to the match. It’s a great sport for women and a fun one to watch as fans. I’m even taking my mother in law. 😃 She loves Coyote athletics and doesn’t miss an event. And she’s 84

I can't make it, but will be following along on the stream. I agree with yoteforever on attending if you can, but if you can't, you should at least try to catch the live stream. It's a HUGE benefit to Yote fans, and may just get you hooked on following the sport, too. I just hope the commentating is better this year.
We've got a sneaky good team this year, with some talented freshmen, and experience at other spots. I think we will surprise a lot of teams that think we are taking a step back after losing Jessen. Basically just like in football with Strev, MBB with Mooney, and WBB with Seekamp. Being overlooked in the preseason can make for a fun "told you so" campaign.

In the tournament:
Northeastern was picked in the middle of the Colonial Northern CO -was picked in the middle of the Big Sky Cal ---------was picked last ---------in the Pac-12 USD ---------was picked in the middle of the Summit
I would think USD should be favored against Northeastern, underdog vs Cal and even with UNC?

Yotes take the first set vs Northeastern 25-21.
very slow start. They trailed for most of the set, but pulled it out in the end with some dominant blocking. Commentary is OK, slightly better than last year. I wish the live stats had individual stats instead of just team numbers.
Yotes with better hitting efficiency- .250 to .153 hitting %

Rasmussen and Dotseth both with Aces early in the 2nd set. Coyotes pulling away 10-3.
