lost to Montana in 5 sets, and swept by CSU-Bakersfield. Kind-of a disappointing end to a non-conference season that started so well. 6-6 right now. Well, they will start the conference play next weekend, and will have a clean slate.

I don't have a daughter that is playing VB, but for those of you who do, .... can't beat the price. $$$ I think I remember the Softball team doing a similar free clinic. Great idea.

Interview with Coach Williamson yesterday (Audio only)
bullet points:
Despite losing all the matches in California, she saw improvement in the team in each match. Clean slate for conference play.
Practices have been great in the last 3 weeks. The team is learning and making changes.
For conference play there are only two matches each week, and we are also more familiar with the teams, so we can get more into a comfort zone. The home court advantage is real in the Summit League, so being on the road is always a challenge. Both NDSU and ORU are tough places to play. NDSU has a great volleyball venue, and ORU can get loud.
Our players are ready to compete in conference play. This is the fun part.

The Cotyotes play @ndsu tonight at 7PM. They have had a brutal schedule. Toughest in the conference by my calculations. They have under-performed against it, though. On Sunday afternoon they play @oru. Most of their Summit travelling is by region, but this one is split north/south. That might give a little jet-lag for the Sunday match. Here are some match-up stats:
offense kills/set #4 USD 12.37 #7 ORU 11.61 #8 NDSU 10.50
Hitting % #5 USD .195 #7 ORU .149 #9 NDSU .102
Assists/Set #4 USD 11.35 #7 ORU 10.94 #8 NDSU 9.92
Aces/Set #2 USD 1.58 #5 NDSU 1.26 #9 ORU 0.71
points/set #4 USD 15.9 #7 ORU 14.3 #8 NDSU 13.7
Defense Digs/set #1 USD 17.26 #3 ORU 16.45 #5 NDSU 15.71
Opponent hitting % #2 USD .185 #6 ORU .212 #8 NDSU .221
Blocks/Set #6 USD #7 ORU #8 NDSU

Looks like the main standout stat from the group of three teams is USD's defense and serving. All three are somewhat offensively challenged. We should be favored in both matches.

Coyotes escape Tulsa with a 3-1 win! Very competitive sets. Neither team scored less than 21 in each set. Shows mental toughness to get out of a dogfight that way.

Fort Wayne and USD are in the top 3 in both Summit League standings and statistically. This is a big match.

Coyotes defend their home floor, and beat Fort Wayne in five sets! Still undefeated at home and undefeated in conference. Nice!

My wife was at the match ( I’m in Illinois for game tonight ) and she said she wasn’t sure how they did it but did it. Good for the lady Coyotes and Coach Williamson. Another home match Sunday. Get there if you can. 4-0 would be a great start to the league race and certainly a confidence builder.
