That seems right on. I'm still concerned about scoring enough points against good defenses. We've seen our offense go cold for long periods of time, and we won't be able to do that consistently against teams like Missouri, Indiana, and SDSU (of course we will continue to kill and score lots of points against inferior teams, but that's not what matters).

Denver lost to NMSU and NU, dropping their stock a little.

AP says the Coyotes are tied with Iowa State for 26th. Texas A & M broke through ahead of us and Missouri dropped out of top 25.

The writer from the Ames Tribune put Iowa State #22 and South Dakota #23 in the AP poll. Also, the writer at the Commercial Dispatch in Starkville, MS, ranked Iowa State 24 and didn't vote for South Dakota.

Little name recognition makes it harder to climb into the polls.

Also, the writer at the Commercial Dispatch in Starkville, MS, ranked Iowa State 24 and didn't vote for South Dakota. Some voter or voters made up the difference, both the teams being tied at 22 apiece, so no consequence suffered.

I bet we are ranked in the coaches poll this week. They were kinder to us than the AP last week, and we still wound up 26th there.

Using the current RPI projection on RealTimeRPI.com, I think the Jacks will be just inside the bubble, and we could still be just outside, as crazy as that sounds.
USD projected RPI: 43 USD projected SOS: 197 USD projected record: 25-3 (13-1) splitting reg season with SDSU
SDSU projected RPI: 41 SDSU projected SOS: 91 SDSU projected record: 23-7 (13-1)
they have an error on SDSU's schedule. They list Wyoming twice. They also have Wyoming as a loss, thus giving them two losses. I think they will win that game unless they lose focus for some reason. That takes two losses off the board, 24-5(13-1), and moves the projected RPI to 35-40, I think.
so basically with both teams it comes down to a handful of big games, and not losing focus in the rest. Indiana, Wyoming, and the two rivalry games. Or just win the SLT.

Dec 17 Update: RPI---------(Massey)-[SOS] 16 USD------(22)------[77]26 SDSU----(28)------[12]
108 Denver-(125)---[148]\/ 151 ORU---(153)----[149] 176 UND---(223)-----[96] 254 Omaha(240)-----[262] 255 WIU---(264)------[84] 324 PFW---(320)-----[268] 337 NDSU-(269)-----[336] Dec 27 Update: RPI---------(Massey)-[SOS] 14 USD------(27)------[47]36 SDSU----(36)------[25]\/127 ORU---(152)----[95]\/ 176 UND---(201)-----[157] 184 Denver-(161)---[200]\/\/ 262 WIU---(264)------[134] 279 Omaha(252)-----[286]\/ 325 NDSU-(278)-----[292] 340 PFW---(326)-----[334] Right now RealtimeRPI is projecting an end-of season RPI of #39 for USD and #48 for SDSU, assuming we both sweep the conference and split the SD series. That would put the Yotes squarely on the bubble and the Jacks just outside. An at-large for the Summit is still not a given, and the Showdown games will matter. Should be fun. Denver, ORU and UND could be factors too, and could pull an upset or two. I'd add Omaha to that group, too, based on their better than expected record and defense. Those three or four teams will be fighting for postseason spots, if nothing else. For the rest, there's always next season...

Charlie Crème has the Yotes staying put as a 7 seed, and the rabbits in the Last Four In bucket. For important games this week he has this note:
South Dakota State at South Dakota, Sunday (ESPN+, 2 p.m. ET): The Summit League comes out firing with a matchup of the conference's marquee teams in just their third league game. The winner will carry the upper hand in the standings until they meet again on Feb. 24. They both are contenders for an at-large bid, so this is a résumé-building game for whoever prevails.

Nice for Charlie to acknowledge this! Looking at RealTimeRPI today shows: #15 USD (projected to #32) #31 SDSU (projected to #37) This is assuming just one conference loss for each team. This is an upgraded projection from last week, and would put us both squarely in the "at-large" territory. I assume the change is due to our opponents and SDSU's opponents winning games. We should have dropped RPI by just playing NDSU, but we didn't.

This Sunday's game is going to be very important if that is the case. A loss there puts us in danger and forces us to win at SDSU.

Missouri knocked off #10 Tennessee yesterday in women's hoops, which makes our December 15 win over the Tigers an even bigger "quality win." Although we lost to a Denver team that caught lightning in a bottle, the win over SDSU yesterday should help our standings remain relatively unchanged I would hope, but alas, what makes sense and what actually happens are sometimes unrelated. =)
