It’s been a while, but new interview with Coach Lee. We covered a lot of ground...Denver, TBM injury, SDSU, Stanley Umude, and Purdue Fort Wayne.

Nice interview! Some of it is the same things he said in post-game, but Lee gives a lot of insight on his coaching strategies and scouting, which is interesting.
On Konchar: “you can’t hurry him. He plays the game at his own pace, and controls the pace. That’s the sign of a good player”
Also: “He looks like he’s about 28”

Coach Lee was very candid in describing last week’s controversial ejection at ORU. It was just part of our conversation, but very interesting to hear it from his perspective: youtu.be/vUJ0oCgH4iA

On the YouTube video above, Lee talks about the ejection from the 1:00 mark to 4:00.
Jay: ...Stan was at the center of a wild sequence of events ... It culminated with your ejection, so I'm sure you remember that well. There was lots of chatter on this during and after. Can you just take us through what went down, from your perspective?
Lee: Well, there was a foul called on an offensive rebound, and they called it on Stan. I couldn't tell if he fouled anybody at that point. I just didn't have a good angle. When the foul was called, I just looked at the bench, because I knew it was his third (which is big). We just didn't have enough guys, and it was his third, ...
So I looked at the bench, to figure out who I'm gonna sub in. Then I looked out there and Stan had his hands in the air, like "I didn't touch him"... So I said to the referee: "Could we review that?" and he said: "No, we can't". So I said to the other official: "What did he do?" and he T'd me up.
At that point, I was talking with the other official. He said: "Look, I'm just trying to keep you in the game". So I said: "Keep me in the game? I just asked what did he do. That's all I said. What did he do? So he T'd me up again.
You know, it's different officials. This is the first time I've had those two. We did have one. Different officials react differently in situations. That's just their personalities. You gotta get to know them. They are perfectly within their right to ... You know, if you're yelling at them, (Which I've (done) a lot of times)... I've done a lot worse, and so have most coaches.
But, hey. That's the way it goes. It's tough. It was the worst night of my professional life. Because I've never ... That's not happened. You spend so much time preparing for a game. You're in a battle with your guys. Anybody that's been a part of a team knows the empty feeling when you can't be with your guys, battling. It's such a gut-wrenching feeling.
And our guys did a great job... They came all the way back, with a change to tie it. You've gotta give our guys so much credit. Dealing with that, you lose by three. They shot six technical fouls, because Stan got a technical in the second half.
You know, I don't want to say a lot about it. I just gave you what happened. We gotta move on, and go from there.

Lee on the quarterfinal Ft Wayne loss:
They're a team that's really explosive.... They had a lot of games this year where they looked really really good, and they had some other games where they looked pretty bad.
They came out, and it seemed like they made every shot. I think they started out 6-for-8 from the 3, made eleven 3's in the first half... That's happened one other time in my career of thirty years. We made a couple of defensive mistakes, but the other shots they made we were contesting. They knocked 'em down. I watched the game the next night against Omaha, they went 3-of-15 from the 3 to start the game.... I said "they had way better looks against Omaha than they did against us!". But they were hot. They can do that. Purdue Fort Wayne's a dangerous team.

Jay: (There's) a lot to be excited about, from a personnel standpoint, in terms of what you've got coming back.
Lee: No question. And you add Tyler Hagedorn back in. He's our best player. He's an all-league post player. He's gonna be a 5th year senior.... You win with old guys. You win with old teams. Let's face it: Omaha was old. They had old guys. PFW was old. SDSU was old. They had the bench that was young, but they had a lot of old guys.
We're excited about next year. We feel like Stan, the steps he took, ... This year, he had a great year, but... now he has a "reference point". Last year he really didn't get to play. Now we have a reference point, he has a reference point, of what he needs to work on, and how much better he needs to get. He knows that.
Tristan Simpson, Tyler Peterson, Cody Kelly, (are) all seniors next year that played a ton of minutes, and are our top 4 in scoring. With the addition of Tyler and those guys coming back, we're excited.
