Weather concerns are in the past. It’s 38 and clear with a high of 67 and sunny. All predictions I can find indicate a score of mid 30s for NDSU, mid 20s for EWU. Dicey for the over under and spread bettor but a cinch for betting the winner. The odds reflect that. It’s tough to make money betting NDSU, virtually nobody expects them to lose. EWU is a worthy opponent. They are last man standing with the best chance to derail a team trying to stake out a legit claim to being among the best ever. It could truly be a game for the ages. Kickoff 1 PM central time ESPN 2. The game is at 11:00 AM central time.

Hope the Bison enjoyed their little streak because it is O-V-E-R. We're taking them down next year.

Much better game than I feared and many expected. Apparently EWU had 9 starters out with injury. There is little talk of that and I haven’t heard any excuses from them. That’s right up there with UND in 2017 but that team, which some UND fans thought had potential to compete in Frisco rolled over big and died. They are still dead. They thought they would dominate FCS and the Big Sky would bring the fame and success. They haven’t and it didn’t. What’s the difference? Why are some teams always competitive and others are not?
The program is the difference. EWU has risen above the rest of the Big Sky. The Eagles do well in the FCS and are certainly a powerhouse in the division. They have gone through coaching changes over the past 10 years but similar to NDSU are always running with the top teams in the league. They hire the best and recruit the best. They don’t run on words, they produce results. They respect the division and accept the challenges with hard work and funding to match. The EWU program has its formula for winning ingrained in their performance on and off the field. They don’t expect it, they earn it. They know bragging, spite and bitterness don’t translate into positive results.
Some fans may never learn you can’t build a winner with your mouth. You do it with a commitment to the program. Adequate funding, community involvement, facility improvements, tradition and respect for your peers. It’s all about winning but you can’t win on the field if you are losing everywhere else.
Those two teams deserved to be there and the result was a good game engaging to the end.

I don’t buy the whole argument let’s win this for the staff. I think they loved Coach Klieman, but also deep in my heart a certain percentage have to think WTF. The whole we are family thing is out the door. Disruption plus apathy and I like Eastern Washington both with the points and outright. I prefer to have the MVFC win all times but I don’t think it’s gonna happen. Will be quite interesting to see if NDSU is distracted or not. My intuition is that NDSU will be focused and will execute well. The reason I think that is that NDSU has 25+ Seniors, which include the key leaders on both offense and defense. The seniors will take over and demand the team performs. Key matchup will be - can the NDSU defense get to the EWU mobile QB and cause him to make poor decisions. If the EWU OL can protect him, EWU has the skill positions to get open. Will be fun to watch. The old ball coach knows better than the old player. Coach was spot on. I bow to excellence.

I think the whole family thing must be real. “They like to say the strength of the herd is the Bison, the strength of the Bison the Herd”
it doesnt seem like the departure of the head coach is looked on as a betrayal. It’s almist expected like a right of passage. Now NDSU has another football outpost at Kansas State. Looks like KSU buys into the adage if you can’t beat em join em. A rematch there with these coaches would be a must see. Probably won’t happen though.
I was pretty pleased with the GAMs prediction of a close game. I’m in awe of some of the national level predictors though that had this thing figured to the point. How do they know NDSU will squeak-in one last TD at games end to put it on the money?
My research into this continues. It will be a off-season of back testing new ideas and statistical relationships.
I often thought of working with local sponsors for prizes. People could put their predictions up against the GAM to earn points and coupons that could be redeemed at participating sponsors. This almost happened when I was operating my own message board back in the dark ages but things didn’t work out. There were several ideas on how it would work but it is not an easy proposition. There wasn’t even any on-line shopping yet.
