.
Herbster hired a football, WBB, and 2 MBB coaches. The jury on Lee is out after 1 season, but the other three hires took each program to their highest points thus far.
Sell has 1 MBB hire to his name, who at best kept the status quo with another coach's players, and it happens to be a guy USD passed on (great hire nevertheless). I don't get the hype for Sell.
The AD does a lot more than hire coaches. He sets the tone, finds the resources etc. etc, From my perspective David Herbster has done a very good job for you guys. I have met and talked with him and found him to be very nice and professional.
The reason people at SDSU are so high on Sell is that under his leadership the Jacks have done some incredible things. SDSU is the only school in Division I to have its football, women's basketball and mens basketball teams all play in the post season every year for the past seven years in a row. Sixteen of those 21 appearances have been NCAA playoffs, plus 2 NIT, 2 WNIT and one CIT. Many of the the programs have also made significant strides as well including wrestling, baseball, this year it appears softball S&D, etc. Volleyball is the one exception. Like you , he has also overseen excellent facilities upgrades and has set the culture for academic excellence.
I don't mean this as a comparison between what each school has done, simply an indication of why Sell is so appreciated.

Here's a very good source for breaking BB coach hiring/firing news: (nothing too notable on there today, but stay tuned)

Can I give you a "thumbs down"? Crap! I thought that the Big East was similar to the Big Ten in being a Power-6 conference, but that might not be the case in women's basketball. Marquette was clearly a better team than Penn State this year, but the Nittany Lions might have a bigger budget? I guess so. (Marquette's coach just took the Penn State job) I wonder if Dawn still has family in West Bend? Likely. Being in Milwaukee, Marquette is only a 45 minute drive to her home town...

Marquette pay is in the $500k range at least. They were paying the outgoing coach $465k 5 years ago. Two other names that I can think of that should come up: Aaron Johnston and Jennie Baranczyk from Drake. Both just as successful and would likely see significant pay raises. No idea what she earns at Drake but guessing the Marquette money would be much more.
Intangibles to make it tougher for Dawn to leave are: 1. Solid team coming back. A great season this year will only help her gain a better negotiating position in the future. She will be just as desirable a hire a year or more from now. 2. Family ties. AJ is going to be a Sophomore at Augustana and Lexie will be a Junior at Vermillion HS. Certainly not an ideal time to move from a family standpoint

.... And her husband, Jay, is from Watertown, WI. About an hour from Marquette.... crap.

At least if she DOES go, I'd think that the USD job now holds even more of a draw than it did three years ago, with the success she has had. Gotta think Herbster would get interest from some talented candidates?
I'd much rather she stay, of course.

Gaskins just likes to stir up controversy whenever he can.

Gaskins just likes to stir up controversy whenever he can. When ratings are king... I'm not too concerned about Dawn leaving, yet. You can point to her children and the returning team as reasons why she wouldn't be looking, but I think that she can do better than Marquette. If it were UW-Madison that was open I would be a bit more uneasy.

Marquette announced Megan Duffy as their new head coach. Signed her to a 6 year contract. Previously coached at Miami(Ohio) for 2 years with a 44-20 record. Was an assistant coach at Michigan prior to that.

Was an assistant coach at Michigan prior to that. Was just reading Marquette's message board. The previous coach was making less than #320K (no idea the exact amount). Subtract the 6.5% WI state income tax (in that bracket), and you are below $300K. Dawn was making $210K (with no state tax) based on her last contract, I think. If she ends up at U of Wisconsin or another P-5 someday, she will easily double or triple her salary.
