One of only nine athletes in the history of Nebraska to make the super state first team in both football and basketball. He was UNK's leading scorer as a freshmen.

So coming from D2 you have to sit out but goimg down a level you don't. Is that the rule or am I confusing it with football?

Did anyone else notice how similar this past season for SDSU mirrored the Yotes in 18-19? Talented team that seemed to fade and loose their spark/fire as the season came to an end, only to find the coach leaving and top returning player 'maybe leaving, maybe staying'. Honestly, I started this thread after going out to see if Jenkins had announced he was transferring - I suspected he was going to before the SLT even started, but his play in SLT and NIT made seem obvious (if you were looking). College coaching is a fickle business - Daum stays, SDSU wins some SLT's, and TJ gets a big pay increase after 3 years. Jenkins/Gill go elsewhere and the new guy is suddenly in a spot where he looking at a 2-3 year rebuild. All because of the whims of 18/19 year old kids.

And the whims of injuries, in the case of Lee. Good point, on the comparisons. Definitely a lot of parallels. Although I prefer an overall strong conference, and thus I don’t celebrate talented players leaving,...
I’d be lying if I didn’t admit to some satisfaction watching the Jacks going through this. For any of their fans who scoffed at us losing Mooney, citing how Daum stayed, it’s time for some reality. Yes the fans in blue show up a little more than the fans in red, but the differences in our programs aren’t that stark, when it comes down to it.
Aside from a few exceptions, like local kids, most recruits commit to coaching staffs more than to the school. Especially at mid-majors. Those with the ability to play at a p-5 will usually, and understandably, want to go do that. Unless an exceptional coach convinced them to stay, as was the case with Daum.
If Smith was still here this past season, Mooney would have been as well. Think about that.

Boy, second guessing that decision to hire an assistant yet? The continuity that many expected sure doesn't seem to be there. Had this conversation with a buddy about this the other night. I think State made a mistake if, and only if, the reason they hired internally was to keep player continuity. You always hire the best guy for the job and let the chip fall where they may.

Interesting article regarding TJ's recruiting pitch. It includes this quote “Prior to him leaving South Dakota State I asked him, ‘Do you think there’s a chance you leave?’” Antonio said. “He said, ‘If I do, it has to be a great situation. And if I do, I want to continue to recruit you and I’d like to take you with me.’ He wants what’s best for me. He said, ‘If UNLV is best for you and if you’re comfortable with UNLV, then I want you.’”

Wow. That's a little different than what he said in his introductory press conference at UNLV. He said that he told all his players and recruits to "honor their commitments" to SDSU.

So coming from D2 you have to sit out but goimg down a level you don't. Is that the rule or am I confusing it with football? That is the rule. Immediate eligibility is if you move down, or are a grad transfer. I would add that sitting out really only applies to five sports: D-1 Football D-1 Men's BB D-1 Women's BB D-1 Baseball D-1 Men's Hockey Moving up from NAIA or D-III to D-II, you don't have to sit out. I think the reasoning with singling out those five sports has to do with them being more high-profile, high-stakes with regard to pro prospects and University profits? The existence of the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL changes the dynamic of recruiting D-1 players. Which is why I question including women's basketball. The WNBA isn't anywhere near those other leagues with regard to money. The NCAA's policies rarely make sense, so I guess it is what it is.

Update: UMKC is now up to 11 (ELEVEN!!) transfers on VC. starting to wonder if they are including student managers. At some point you have to wonder if the previous coach is part of the reason. Like maybe he encouraged them to all put their names out there. If so, It doesn't reflect well on him. Basically sabotaging the new coach. This reminds me of Lee's first year at Kentucky Wesleyan. He was hired following an NCAA shakedown of the school. Lots of academically ineligible players and compliance issues. He only had 5 returning players, only one of which was a starter. It ended up working out for Lee after a few years, but I'm sure it wasn't easy.

Heard at work today the Argus had an article noting the Krueger kid from State asked for his release. Mea culpa if already noted.
edit: my Latin teachers would never forgive me writing mia instead of mea. My apologies to Mr. Mickelson and Prof. Sebesta.

It makes sense for athletes at schools in transition to place their name in the portal, as they are always able to withdraw from the portal if the new coach arrives and it's a good fit. They can measure the interest from other schools until the new coach is named/arrives.
