The 2019-20 roster has been posted on GoYotes.com. It is missing the important news of the day, which is that Stanley Umude is staying. goyotes.com/roster.aspx?path=mbballWith that information, I think it will be fun to look at the roster and depth chart for next year: Likely Starters:
Tyler Hagedorn - 6'10" Stanley Umude - 6'6" Tyler Peterson - 6'4" ORBrandon Armstrong - 6'5" ORCody Kelly - 5'11" Triston Simpson - 6'2" Likely Bench:
Matt Johns - 6'8" Simeon Jovic - 6'9" Ty Chisom - 6'4" Rich Polanco - 6'8" Hunter Goodrick - 6'7" (RS?) Kruz Perrott-Hunt - 6'3" (RS?) Walk-Ons:
Isaiah Smith - 6'3" Caden Hoffman - 6'0" Red Shirts:
AJ Plitzuweit - 6'2" Kanon Koster - 6'4" IF THE TEAM STAYS HEALTHY, how crazy different does that looks from this year?

This is a group with tons of potential. Obviously, they could be pre-season favorites. Even more obviously, there is enough parity in this conference to not be over-confident (as the Jacks seemed to be this past season).
I'm interested to see Johns and Jovic put some meat on those long frames. They could be really good off the bench.

I really believe Polanco is going to see significant minutes as he is a solid scorer as well as rebounder. His size will be something we didn't have much of last year and I believe his game will be similar to what we saw with TBM. Not sure which guard wouldn't start but I think Hags and Polanco will play quite a bit together.

I don’t see Armstrong being consistent enough to start. Better off bench providing a spark of offense.

I too think Palanco will see significant minutes if not a starter. He and Hagedorn will be able to move around on the offensive end.

I'm so pumped for the next season now. Umude has to be preseason favorite for Summit POY. Hagedorn is likely a 1st teamer too if he is 100%. Great 1-2 combo at guard with Simpson and Kelley, plus a couple seniors behind them in Armstrong and Peterson. Add in improving freshmen from last year and a couple intriguing JUCO transfers and I'm ready to start believing.

John Thayer interviewed The Toddfather a couple of days ago on his podcast, and here are his comments on returning players (remember this was before the Umude news came out): (Starting at the 5:00 mark) Thayer: Last year your message was that your guys were learning new terminology and a new system. [...] How much different do see is this year ...?Lee: It's a yuge difference (yes he said yuge). We've got five seniors coming back.... They've all been through the system. Johns played a lot of minutes last year, when he wasn't hurt. Jovic redshirted, a 6'-9" freshman... We've got a lot of guys that were in the program last year that know the system and the terminology.
I feel like we're way ahead of,...last year. First of all, the roster is much better. Not having Tyler Hagedorn last year was a yuge loss. We feel like he'll be the best big man in the league, and maybe the best player in the league. He'll have a chance to be player of the year. Tristan Simpson... he should be one of the best guards in the league.
We've got five seniors, and at this ... mid-major level, a lot of times you're good when you're old..... It is a big advantage to have a year under their belt in our system... We're light-years ahead of where we were last year.

I'm not sure why Lee sometimes sounds like he is from the Northeast, but it falls right into the "Toddfather" image. It's Yuge.
More from the 7:20-10:00 mark on transfers and recruits:
Thayer: What do you see out of these guys? Correct me if I'm wrong, but Ty (Chisom) can play right away?
Lee: Yeah. A.J. and Kanon with both sit out a year. They were both freshmen, and put up really good numbers at the D-II level. A.J. played at Augie, and was Freshman of the Year in that league. He's gonna be a very good player. And Kanon put up big numbers at Nebraska-Kearney. We talked to a lot of coaches in that league (MIAA) and they were really happy that he was leaving. Because he did put up big numbers as a freshman.
They're both gonna have to sit out because of the transfer rule, but you know we have four senior guards in front of them.... So the great thing is, AJ and Kanon will get to go against those guys every day. Then when those guys graduate, they're gonna have to step in and play.
We also signed (in the early period) Goodrick and Kruz. Goodrick's from Australia, and he just made the Under-19 Australian National Team, which plays in the Word Games in Greece. And Kruz is also on the Under-19 New Zealand team that's gonna be playing in Greece in the World Games this summer. So those two guys are gaining really valuable experience.
We also have a 6'-8" post player, Richard Polanco, who played at Central Arizona. He's a very talented young man. So we're obviously a lot bigger. Goodrick is 6'-7". Matt Johns & Richard Polanco, those kids are 6'-8". Jovic and Hags are 6'-9".
And we're really excited about (Ty) Chisom. He's 6'-3", a good athlete, a little bit different than what we have in the program, currently. An "attack the rim" guy. A really good defender. Tough kid. He played at Indian Hills, one of the best JCs in the country. He's a winner, and we're excited about him.
We've got a lot of guys in the program that we feel will be really good players. We've got a lot more depth this year, which means we can.... I think we'll be much better defensively. We'll be able to push the ball more. I'm excited about our depth.

Side note: At the end of that interview they talked about Lee's two sons. Carson is transfering from Creighton, where he is a BB manager, to USD. He will be helping out the team (I assume as a student manager). His younger son Jackson will be playing scholarship basketball at Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA (NAIA). What a great thing for Coach, after having been away from his family for a year!

I predict this is the year we raise the bar for attendance in both mbb and wbb.
Who wouldn't want to come watch our teams play...? The wbb team is amazing and with Umude staying... my kids loved watching him play!!! Add Hags to that mix... Damn!

I'm not sure why Lee sometimes sounds like he is from the Northeast, but it falls right into the "Toddfather" image. It's Yuge. Born and raised in South Dakota, then spent 20+ years in the southwest with 8 years in Kentucky mixed in there...and he sounds like he is from Massachusetts or something. I don't get it at all.

Very glad that he has two sons in close proximity.

Very glad that he has two sons in close proximity. This has been a concern of mine as well. Hopefully this means his wife and youngest son will be moving up to Vermillion as they stayed down in Arizona this past year. I didn't know how long Lee would want to keep coaching up here if his family was staying down in Arizona, so it's definitely a good sign that two of the boys are going to be up here.
