Just getting home from the match in Ames. Iowa State beat the Yotes 3-0 but theres good reason to be optimistic about this season. We play a lot of young kids and they are going to be special..Juhnke is the real deal. Slaughter makes us A LOT better. Our setter is a sophomore, one middle a true freshman as is Juhnke. Lorschens a senior but she’s special.
Coach W is a really good coach and excellent at developing. I like our chances to contend for title. We didn’t pass well but some of that was because of what Iowa State did and how they attacked. Nothing to be ashamed of, I’ll say that.
Went to UC Davis and Wyoming VB matches. I am a relative newbie to following VB but the Yote team is really fun to watch. The low light was too many service errors but more than offset with really good defense, and at times truly explosive offense. Hard to beat watching Slaughter, Wiedenfeld, Juhnke, and several others, pound the ball over the net. They can hit the ball hard but also take advantage of defensive openings. Comparatively, the other teams tended to hit the ball hard whether the blockers were in place or not.
Before the second match Coach Williamson held a "coach talk" for anyone interested. Went through a number of offensive, defensive and serving strategies. There will be more of these, and if you have the opportunity to attend, you won't regret it. Williamson does a great job explaining the finer points of the game. She has a natural enthusiasm and I can understand her recruiting and winning successes.
Finally, my grandson and I will be attending the FB game and staying for VB. I have 2 extra tickets in the Cortrust Club area to watch VB. If you would like to have them (free), DM me and we will work out details. Yote fans only.

Sounds like from the article, Juhnke committed to USD as a Sophomore, and her success as a Jr and Sr got her lots of D-1 interest, but she stayed with her commitment. Great job by our coaches to see her potential early!
