Thayer: Having Iowa as an opponent following a Football game certainly helped, but the crowds have grown, and the interest in USD Volleyball has grown over the last several years. Some of it builds off of last year's success... but I feel like this has been growing over the last few years.... You're seeing the growth as well, among fans and season ticket holders?...
Herbster: Right. And I look at High School Volleyball in the state of South Dakota. While it does get coverage, and it's fairly popular, it's no where near the sport that you see in Nebraska. But I think when you can have some successful high school teams, and you can have some of those players off of those successful HS teams make it to one of the collegiate teams, (in this case USD, the best VB team in the state) ... the interest will follow. That support's gonna come from a grassroots element....
It will grow. I can't tell you it's gonna grow to what it is at the U of M or Nebraska, but such an unbelievable product is being put on the floor. And you're doing it with local and regional kids. People that fans can identify with and who fans know.
At the Friday night match vs Wyoming, I think we had every single volleyball player from Harrisburg at the match. You'll have that following, and it gives us the opportunity to advance the sport and inspire young girls into dreaming of playing volleyball... in college.

from Anne's interview:
Thayer: "... What was the atmosphere like ... in set 5 (of the Iowa match)? ..."
Anne: "The crowd was incredible the entire time. They were super into it, not just for the big kills, but the big digs, the big plays even Iowa was making, ... they were just super involved.... just an electric atmophere."
Thayer: "When you were being recruited... the new building was being built... what brought you to USD?"
Anne: "When I was being recruited here I just saw pictures of the arena, ... nothing was really built yet. So for me, the decision to come to USD was really about the people. The facilities (plans) were looking great, but... you never really know whether they would be done in time...
The coaching, The players, The campus, just really drew me in, and had that "home" feeling that I was looking for. Especially from a school that was eight hours from my home state."

Thayer: "Does it feel like the culture has changed in your time here? Like you were part of a change that has taken USD to a different level?
Anne: "Yeah. I mean, starting with my freshman year, us winning the regular season title was a huge wake-up call. Like this program is very good, and will be very good. So I know that Elizabeth Loschen and I, who have been here since the beginning, have taken that upon our shoulders, that we WANT that culture of success. And we want to be a program that's known for winning.
Some of those things that our seniors now (my freshman year) have implemented: that you do things the right way, you stay disciplined through that, that has helped us through our success."

Sounds like she has lost her voice! Maybe should have rescheduled the interview?

New interview with Seargeant Bluff, IA Freshman, Madison Harms (MB).
Not a very long segment. I think they cut it off early.
Harms has gone under the radar with so much talent on this team, but for a freshman, she is really contributing! Right now she leads the team in blocks. Between her, Weideman and Gerdes, we can really put up a wall to opposing offenses.

Not sure if I chose the correct thread for these Coyote Net Reports, but I'll just be consistent and post another one here....

Paraphrased highlights of interview...
Q: How much did the crowd help vs. Omaha? A: It was really important. We had a great crowd, over 1,200 people there. The thing I've been the most excited about is that people aren't just coming to sit there and watch. They are participating. They're involved.
We really didn't play particularly well in that match until the 5th set. In that set we had 10 kills and hit ".500". That was a big turnaround, and when we got going, the crowd got involved.... I do think that energy the crowd provided us made a difference. It's something we love being a part of.

Q: In the Denver Match, both teams hit at low percentages, but the block came up big. The resiliency really showed when the team came back from being 2-1 down, right?
A: I'd love to say that every time we play a good team, we're gonna play at our highest level, but that's not the case. That really shows in our match vs. Denver. We had a lot of hitting errors. In one of the sets (2nd) they REALLY took it to us, and that effected the rest of our game....
Denver is a tough place to play. I'd love to say that it's just like any other away game, but it's not. They play very well on their home floor. Denver is a team that can go on runs quicker than any other team in the league. You saw that in the 5th set.... That was a good, resilient win for us. It's important because that's where the conference tournament will be.

Q: So a day of practice today, and then a quick turnaround tomorrow to get back on the bus to Fargo?
A: This week has been tough for short practices before games..... NDSU will play a very good game. #1 they play good defense at home. #2 it will be homecoming, so they will have lots of fans there. It will be a challenge to not only play our game, but take in our environment, and try to control what we can control. I'm excited to see how the team handles it. I feel like we are in a really good situation right now.

Q: Talk about the Coyotes at #33 RPI, and what that means to the program, and the Summit League...
A: We've been working for that for a long time. When I first came here as a GA 11 years ago under HC Matt Houk, we talked about building the program to this point, where we are recognized, and we are able to win matches that people didn't think we could. This year it has come full circle, and you start to see that happen at a higher rate. We've done it in the past, but not at a consistent level.
We're very excited about it. It's a level of recognition that the players do enjoy (and rightfully so), and yet we continue to look at things that we CAN control. And that number is not something we can control. We control what we do in practice. We can control how we play in games. That's really what we are focusing on. We did talk about it as a program, but now that's behind us and we are focusing on Friday.
