A lot of ink has been spilled about student attendance and involvement (vs. phone-staring). We hoped Coach Lee could bring some GCU magic to SCSC, but didn't see anything. It appears someone is now doing something about it. This is how you can build a new culture! Awesome work, whoever it was who got this going!
Anyone who was there yesterday able to provide some context?

My eyes about popped out of my head seeing that. How was this organized? Are we paying extras to participate? Looking into the Coyote Crazies twitter page it looks like the first video was part of a closed session early yesterday or late Friday where they brought in students (maybe the freshman class?) and taught them cheers and other gameday stuff. Then the other videos seem to have been during the game, so those students found their red and actually came back to follow through. Getting the new students involved in athletics immediately after moving them onto campus is a great idea. Building a rabid fan culture in the student body will take years, but this is how you start the process. I'm anxious to see how many come back for later football/volleyball games this year and what kind of fun they might be having.

From the Welcome Week Orientation: www.usd.edu/student-life/welcome-week-orientationThis looks like a greater push to get students involved than we've seen in...ever? The SCSC is a great venue for an involved fanbase and that apparently can go beyond the games. Events like these were simply impossible just a few years ago.

I good litmus test will be this weekend against Montana. Pros: We have an early season game on campus. Nothing is worse than not having your first home game until late Sept/Early Oct for student body involvement. Cons: It's Labor Day weekend, so plenty of students will go home. I would encourage all the students to stay in town and enjoy the 3 day weekend. You've only been away from home for a week.

Women's soccer match/game yesterday:
Box score attendance: 438 Average home att. in 2018: 166 Highest attendance road games in 2018: @ Creighton: 1248 @ Denver: 553 @ NMSU: 411 @ SDSU: 249
The Volleyball match didn't have a box score, but I'll assume that had some good attendance numbers as well. I'm very encouraged about this. The student section brings something to the game experience that you just can't replicate in any other way. The Coyote crazy twitter feed should be a good follow...

Observing from afar it appears that whoever is running the Coyote Crazies is very engaged and aggressive at recruiting members. Awhile back I saw a tweet about creating pack leaders or something of the sort dedicated to each sport. I think this approach and placing a high emphasis on freshman involvement is key to building a culture. By the time they are seniors, many will have developed a dedication to supporting the athletes. Lastly, once students are in the bleachers it is up to the athletic department to create positive experiences. Winning helps too of course.

The Crazies are back, just in time for basketball season. It's sometimes hard to motivate the students to go to all of those games/matches, but this was a case where the students really came through! All those that are working towards better student attendance are doing awesome.
I'm hopeful that basketball will really bring out the students this year!
