I’d like to believe the OL is better and improving. The offense has been spotty at times but isn’t the main problem. They’ve been over recruiting OL recently and need to do that with DL IMO. I fear firing the entire defensive staff only creates more instability. Remember these assistants are only on 1 year deals. If you fire the DC after 1 season, how hard does it make it to hire a new guy and convince him to move his family only for him to be fired after 1 year? You become Cleveland constantly cycling through coaches. I don’t know what the answer is. They have got to get this team disciplined and under control. That is job #1. Stop beating yourselves. You want to talk about instability? We are already on 3 defensive coordinators in 3 years.

We can all see when something is not working. Make it 4 in 4. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses and move on.

I saw the SIU game and now am an expert critic of this team. Imagine that!
Okay - given very limited observation, my conclusion was that this team is weak in the middle defensively. We couldn't stop the run and we couldn't pressure their QB in any consistent way. You're going to lose a lot of games of you don't have that. Line play has a lot to do with the outcome of any football game. Simple as that.
Fire the head coach who has a 5-year contract? We know that's very unlikely. Fire assistant coaches or coordinators? I'm not sure. Maybe the message is that we need continuity and (unfortunately) an opportunity for those involved to succeed by learning through/after failure. It will take hard work. A lot of hard work. If a coach isn't up to it, then cut them loose.
Next year I will be "fire and brimstone" if we don't have success. Right now, I'm afraid we will have to play with the hand we're dealt. Unfortunately, that hand sucks.

Now all we can do is wait until the paint dries. There is no way that we can fire Bob, and I think wholesale staff changes might do more harm than good. Yes, the defense has been abysmal, but I think we have to give the DC a chance to play his way out of this mess. if not, what established coach would want to come here knowing that 1 underperforming season could do him in?

Coordinator changes happen much quicker and much more frequently than head coach changes. Look at the FBS level and you will see that if a coordinator or position coach comes in and isn't getting the job done they are replaced quickly. Keep in mind, these coaches know this is the life they signed up for. They know the deal, perform or you will be replaced.
I would have no problem making quick changes if I was the Head Coach because if I don't the next change that will be happening is me cleaning out my desk.

I suppose it helps our case that assistants are still on 1-year contracts. I just fear being on our 4th DC in as many years

After reading everyone's comments, I want to rescind one part of my original post. It just doesn't make sense to fire Bob right now. However, he has some obvious staff changes to make. At this point this season, a victory over the bunnies would be great, but wouldn't undo our bad losses. Next year may look like a totally different team leadership-wise just with Simmons and Greenfield leaving, and every player on the roster will be a Bob recruit. We have to be more competitive next year, or the buy out may be our only option.

All would not be forgiven, but a win over the Joose guzzlers would go a long way toward righting many of the wrongs this season IMO.

A win over State College would MAD, but We need to win our last 2 home games to salvage any good out of the season.

This is fun reading since USD was the big pusher for multi year contracts. Not working out? State College beats the Outhouse called the University on Nov 23.

With its experience in manure expos, Brookings has the advantage when it comes to outhouses. You used to be one of the SDSU posters who would come on here and actually bring something to the table. What happened...you fall off the wagon?

We can all see when something is not working. Make it 4 in 4. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses and move on. Remember when NDSU was 3-8 in 2009 (Craig Bohl's 6th year)? Didn't think so as they won their first FCS Championship 2 years later and have went on to win an additional six. Great programs are not built overnight. Patience is difficult, but necessary.

Wasn't that their first year of postseason eligibility? He also had 8, 8, 7, 10, 10, and 6 win seasons before that. The first two years in the MVFC was a big adjustment for them. Apples and oranges here.
