Surprised that no one has started this yet. I know nothing about SIU-E and I'm not even close to being as ambitious as kiyoat to dig up information as thoroughly as he does, but after the performance against Texas Southern the other night I'm excited to see this team back in action. Can't expect someone to go 8/8 from three every game, but play with the defensive intensity, execute the offense and utilize the depth that was shown every game and we'll be tough for anyone to handle.

Tonight's game is against SIUE (Southern Illinois University Edwardsville) not EIU. The Cougars started their transformation from D2 to D1 the same year as the Yotes and are a member of the Ohio Valley Conference. We played them pretty much every year during the transition period.

Whoever runs the men's twitter account isn't putting out gameday tweets with all the game links in them, like the other sports do. No big deal. It's just obvious that different people are doing it. No preview article yet written about the game, either. Oh well. Here's some links: (video)(audio)(stats)

The preseason poll had SIUE tabbed #11 of the 12 teams of the Ohio Valley, and had no players on the preseason all-conference team.
Looking very briefly at their stats, this is generally a below-average, but not terrible team that has a hard time scoring or hitting threes. They are OK at forcing turnovers.
KenPom has us as #118 and SIUE at #326 Massey has us as #138 and SIU at #313
Since Kenpom accounts for player attrition, I'll guess they are a lot more accurate right now. This is saying that we are better and they are worse than last year.
Massey has us winning at home 80-67. I'll go 85-65.

Hopefully it's a W and a far better performance by the audio/video feed tonight!

Hag's streak is over at 12 for 12 from beyond the arc. At halftime, he is now 12 for 13 over the last three games.

Is there any word on Matt Johns? Is he out for the year?

Wasn't pretty but 5-0 is 5-0. Worst takeaway from the game was the split screen scoreboard on the stream. What in the world is up with that?

71-56. I wasn’t positive we would break 60 earlier in the game. Things opened up for us in the last few minutes. A pair of back-to-back threes from Armstrong helped.

An ugly win, but a win none the less. Very rough, physical game. I think that's the way SIU-E wanted to play and the 'Yotes somewhat played right into their hands. Lots of holding, grabbing and shoving and more than one cheap shot away from the ball. The three point shooting had to come down to Earth at some point and tonight was the night, but it was nice to see Armstrong nail a few back to back toward the end to basically put the game on ice. Is it just me or does anyone else really like Ty Chisom's game? He is just so explosive. After he gets a bit more indoctrinated into the system I think he could be a big piece to the puzzle.

Is there any word on Matt Johns? Is he out for the year? I heard MCL sprain which is usually about a six week recovery. That would probably take him up to the Christmas break. With the depth we've shown maybe there's a possibility of a redshirt? That is 100% speculation on my part.

5-0 is all that matters to me. This team is showing a nice ability to play their best against the better teams and when they need it. Lee is making nice progress.
