Great job Yotes you nailed it! The Lady Yotes are 21 in the AP poll which is well deserved!! That was a real close one. We only edged Tennessee by 2 points. Their loss was to UConn, and actually wound up moving up a little in the poll. 7 more full weeks of play until the field is announced, 7 weeks to keep climbing. I know the polls aren't the end all of what the committee looks at, but I have to think that sitting pretty in the polls would help us get a better seed.

Fun with the polls, Super Bowl Sunday edition. Our Yotes won their games again this week and sit at 21/18 in the polls (AP/coaches, respectively):
11/12 DePaul - Loss to Creighton (hooray for our RPI), beat Providence 12/11 Gonzaga - Beat San Diego, beat BYU 13/13 Kentucky - Beat Auburn, beat Mizzou, loss to Florida 14/14 Florida State - Loss to Boston College, beat Pitt 15/15 Texas A&M - Beat Georgia, loss to LSU 16/17 Arizona - Beat USC 17/16 Maryland - Beat Ohio State 18/19 Iowa - Beat Penn State, loss to Michigan 19/20 Arizona State - Beat USC, loss to 8/9 UCLA 20/23 Indiana - Beat Minnesota, beat Wisconsin 22/22 Tennessee - Beat Vanderbilt, loss to 1/2 South Carolina 23/26 Northwestern - Beat Michigan, beat Penn State 24/21 Missouri State - Beat Bradley, beat Illinois State 25/25 Arkansas - Beat Alabama, trailing Mizzou 35-27 at half (rooting for RPI)
I started my observations all the way up at #11/12 this week because I noticed Creighton beat DePaul. Very good win for Creighton, which helps us for having beat them already. DePaul's only losses to date were to 4/5 UConn and 10/10 Oregon State. I'm predicting we are neck-and-neck with DePaul in the polls this week.
Kentucky/Florida State/Texas A&M all had losses to average-ish teams in their conferences. All 3 of them have considerably more votes than us and are 5-7 spots higher (at least in the AP), but I'm expecting to be in a jumble with them tomorrow. We will pass 1, maybe 2 of them but will be neck-and-neck.
In the AP we will pass Iowa and Arizona State.
With that, I'm predicting 18 in the AP and 16 in the coaches poll (but could see 15, maybe even 14 if DePaul really falls).

I’d like to see us break into that top 20 of the AP, but at the same time if they keep overlooking us it’ll make it that much sweeter when we bring the “upset”.

No one can climb in the polls when this is who the opponents are...

The fact that we only have two teams in the top 100 and THREE in the top 200 is sad.

USD and SDSU continue to step up their game in women's hoops while the rest of the conference doesn't even stagnate, but continues to regress. Might be some hope for NDSU with their new coach, but that is a huge rebuild in Fargo.

The bad news: We seem to have hit a mid-major "glass ceiling" in the polls that has to do with perception. It goes right along with the Summit League RPI glass ceiling that we hit every year. We have maxed out our goodwill, and are having to continue winning simply to tread water in rank, or fall more gradually.
The good news: Who would have predicted before this season just how high that glass ceiling would be for a Summit League team? Let's not get jaded too quickly. Being ranked that high that long is significant.
I think that in pushing the limits of what is possible, we are doing our part to raise that ceiling, just as other programs have done in the past that we are now benefiting from (including the Jacks Sweet 16 visit last year).

The Coyotes have done absolutely everything and more of what can be reasonably expected of them since the non conference ended. Winning by the margin they have been is all they can do. I mean Dawn could always leave the starters in the whole game to win by 50 instead of 35. I think the Coyote program would be looked upon quite a bit more negatively that way.

Any predictions on movement in the rankings this week? The coaches seem to appreciate the Yotes more than the media. Thus, I could see us move up a couple of spots based in who lost this week. The AP is a whole different story as they seem to value RPI and names they recognize.
