Only took 10 3 pointers last night which shows how well USD can stick to a game plan. Creighton would not defend the post so the Yotes kept getting the ball inside. It was a fun game. Also, Ciara was a huge factor in this game. She basically came out of the gates strong (9 points in the 1st quarter I believe) and dared the Jays to stop here. Once they had to commit to slowing her down, the inside really opened up.

I remember one exchange where Sjerven and Duffy kept passing it back and forth like a pinball machine in the paint. That's gotta be hard to defend.

Here's another interesting stat: Jaylyn Agnew, who normally takes 28% of the teams' FG attempts, only took one shot (missed) inside the arc, and was 2-8 outside. She wasn't on the bench, either. She played 39 minutes.
Seemed like MacKeever was guarding her most of the time? I could be wrong. Agnew still shot the most FT on the team, and was 6-6 from the charity stripe. I'll guess that Monica was the victim of a lot of her foul-drawing, since Monica had 4?

... Love beating Creighton basically every single year... The USD/Creighton series is 0-5 for Creighton over the last 6 seasons. In 2015 and 2016 we ended their postseason in the Dome. In 2014 the Jacks ended their postseason in Frost. Creighton is also 1-6 playing in the State of South Dakota in the last six seasons, going 1-2 in Brookings and 0-4 in Vermillion. The last time they won a game in this state was Nov 18, 2014 in Brookings. Five years ago. The last time they won in Vermillion was Nov 20, 2012. Seven years ago. That's gotta suck.

There's an SDSU fan who watched that game and deduced that the Jacks' inside players can "own" Sjerven and Frederick. That's the kind of delusion that can only come from a guy watching the game in a MAGA hat. Keep your politics to yourself, it doesn't belong here. That ain’t politics. And no. But thanks for weighing in.

The team did a really good job playing together on that end and understanding what Creighton was trying to do. It was just a really solid all around effort. Smart basketball taking advantage of size offensively and playing really smart defensively.

USD’s understanding of the motion offense and what Creighton is trying to do with it was a really big factor last night I thought. When to switch, when not to, etc., seemed to frustrate Agnew in particular but really the whole team. Also never hurts to have an eraser behind you.
That said, it’s probably a bit easier to deal with a team that has no post presence. You give Creighton a big and that game is a lot tougher.

I know that Denver and Oral Roberts have upgraded their size at post with transfer players. I haven't kept up with how they are doing, but I don't think they are setting the world on fire yet. Still, those two teams have the capability to shoot the lights out on any given night, and will always be dangerous. Size in the post could put them over the top in a game like that.

After reading kiyoat's last post, I saw this and thought it was interesting. Something to keep an eye on for when the Yotes play them.

did Madison Nelson goto Dover-Eyota in Minnesota? she is a rockstar. how the heck she end up in denver? No idea. When she was recruited Denver sucked. The Bison sucked, too (still do). Not sure why she didn't get interest from the other Dakota Schools. She played AAU with the Minnesota Fury, like Madison McKeever, who the Yotes recruited (same class) ESPN ranked her the #67 Forward in the country in 2016 (link)I think that she has really improved every year in Turgeon's system. She is long and fast, so she fits right in.

Of course, Coyote Red would be better yet!
