Just announced Iowa, Iowa State, UNI, and Drake will not have kids back on campus after spring break. Closing campus until at least April 3rd and holding classes online only.
Ivy League just flat out cancelled their spring sports seasons.
I am guessing we will hear USD announce they are closing campus and going to online classes after spring break very soon here.

Bad timing with the BB tournaments this season. Crap. March Madness, indeed. Maybe March Pandemic.

Correction on the State of Iowa closures. Residence halls and dining hall will remain open. Students are encouraged to use their best judgement and stay home and do class online. I am guessing this was done to accommodate international students and possibly students from a great distance.

The NBA just suspended the season after learning a player for the Jazz tested positive. Gotta think he isn't the only one if he has been carrying it.

The NBA has just set the precedent. The NHL will be next, March Madness will be cancelled, the MLB season will be delayed for a couple months. Basically anything that involves gatherings of 250 people or more you can almost bet it is going to be cancelled, this includes prom, High School graduations, etc.
From everything I have read, it is an almost certainty that 70% of the population will be exposed to coronavirus, there's no stopping it, what they are attempting to do is limit a rapid peak of infections that would overwhelm hospitals. The term being used is "flattening the curve" which means the strategy is to extend the duration of this outbreak out over time while limiting peaks. Result being this isn't going away anytime soon and you can expect restrictions on mass gatherings and some travel is going to happen for at least a few months to avoid flare ups in the outbreak.
Things are about to get really weird for a while.

I'm guessing there are many many industries that will be negatively affected by all of this, some of them will be decimated. Sports, Entertainment, Conventions, Restaurants, Churches, Stores, Travel, Tourism, agriculture, manufacturing, shipping .... like everything, really. Insane stuff.
Maybe some industries will see a boost, ... I can't think of any right now, though. People at home might be buying more stuff online? Video games and board games? emergency supply sellers? Grocery Stores?
With a deadliness/virulence of 10x the common flu (current estimate, who knows, really), I can see a good number of infant and elderly deaths. Nothing political or remotely funny about any of it. Nobody's fault. Just sh!tty. I hope someone can come up with a vaccine real quick like, like you see in the movies. Probably unrealistic.

Mostly right on kiyoat with one exception. Medical experts say the risk is extremely low for children under 9 and if I recall correctly no one under 9 has died.
Elderly are high risk if they have an underlying medical condition. They used example that just medicated high blood pressure is normally ok but with a pulmonary condition would be very serious.
So elderly need to stay away from large groups, avoid long travel especially planes or cruise ships.

My dad is over 70 and has an autoimmune disorder. I'm more than a little worried about him. Asked him to stay home from church yesterday, and watch the service on the video feed. I'd rather be on the overreaction side with him, I guess. Even though kids seem to not be getting it, or have milder symptoms, I'd be willing to assume kids can be carriers at this point, until I hear otherwise. My kids might not be visiting grandpa this week.

Airline industry is toast.
I am beginning to wonder if the reaction to this pandemic is going to have a worse effect on our economy and our society than if we had just gone along with our daily routines and not shut everything down. H1N1 infected a million Americans and killed 75,000 and we didn't shut down the country like is happening right now. Fear may be worse than the virus itself. What is happening to the stock market right now could end up being the trigger that sends the world into a recession like we haven't seen since the 1930's post the 1929 stock market crash when the market fell 24.8% over 4 days. As of right now the market is down 24% from highs last month and this thing isn't close to being over. If a Great Recession comes back again, how many millions will die due to poverty as a result?
What happens if this is seasonal and comes back every year like flu season? Do we do this every time?
If I'm over 60 or have any underlying health conditions I'm hunkering down for a few months and riding this one out. I advised my parents to do just that. Stay home and lay low for next couple of months. I gave them Netflix account password and offered to get them groceries as they need them.

Got a call yesterday from the facility saying that as of this time they were banning all visitation at least through the end month.

I just wish that we would be seeing more "postponed" messages, and fewer "canceled" ones. It appears with a few quick (and seemingly drastic, in the moment anyway) measures, we can largely flatten the curve int he US in a really short amount of time. (This article was a good read: Article with lots of graphs) Teams may be able to still play winter sports championships in a month or so in empty gyms. I just feel for all these kids who spend a majority of their youth to get to this moment. Imagine being on the team at the Pentagon today when they called it off...
