Chris began his pro pole vaulting career sponsored by Nike last summer. He is currently ranked 5th in the world and is the 2nd highest US ranked pole vaulter. Qualifications for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics can be held until June 29, 2021.
Best of luck Chris!!

He vaulted something like 19'4 competing unattached in a meet in the dome a few weeks ago. Really was pretty impressive to see.

Congratulations to Chris for qualifying for the U.S. men's Olympic pole vault finals which will be held Monday! Chris was one of the 12 qualifiers. Also congrats to Ethan Bray for finishing 15th! So impressive for the Coyotes to have 2 of the top 15 finishers!!
The University of South Dakota is the U.S.'s pole vault U!!

This is simply, absolutely and unabashedly (and any other adverbs you care to toss in) great news! Chris always seems to rise to the occasion and perform his best when the stakes are the highest. Now, on to Tokyo to bring home the gold.

I follow Chris on social media and must admit that it didn't even cross my mind to post the results here. Just another day at the track for him. How awesome is that?!

Nilsen cleared 19'8 1/4 (6 meters) at the USD Twilight meet yesterday which ranks him #1 in the world this year. Missed three attempts at 19'11 which would have set the all-time American record. He'll get that some day.

Chris is the only American to qualify for Sunday evening's pole vault finals at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene. He did not have a miss in the qualifying round, and shut it down after securing finals qualification at 18' 10-1/4". As usual, Mondo Duplantis and a German were also perfect in qualifying at the same height. This is essentially the non-Olympic-year Olympics.

SILVER, once again, with Duplantis setting a new world record! Sometimes, Chris being a Yote with the Coyote paw logo tattooed onto his shoulder always on display on the world stage feels like a dream. GO YOTES!
