Keep your enemies close and your friends (supporters) closer it seems. No matter the circumstance nor the outcome, support the team and the program. Yes, it has been a very tough year to stomach up until this point. Nightmare schedule, drunk offensive coordinator who devastated this team’s trust and put the staff in a very tough spot with no one prepared to take over that position, a QB that took 3-5 steps backwards after last year, an OL that has been very porous at times, and a defense that forgot how to play coverage or tackle in 1 game this year. Challenging absolutely!! But it’s not like the players are shitty or not out there competing. And I’m pretty sure they aren’t being taught to cut routes loose or miss tackles. Our job is to support and cheer them on just like we were when we played (sometimes not so well). Should we have certain expectations, YES, but it’s not our position to hire or fire coaches. I have a problem with "it's our job" thing. It's not my job to support the team. It's actually the opposite of my job. I spend more time and money than I care to admit supporting the program, well the whole athletic department I guess, and haven't gotten much in return unfortunately. I do it because I want to, not out of some job-like obligation. My "want to" is running thin as of late and I think a lot of the fan base feels the same way. This!

To each his or her own and each individual will make the choice on how they support, fund, or cheer on the teams. But at the end of the day, WE do not make those decisions, so why is it even worth talking about on this forum. If you are a fan, alum, or parent support the team, coaches and cheer on the kids because not one of them wants to be in this situation either.

Why do people talk about what they would do if they were president? Why do we all fantasize about what we would do if we won the lottery? Fan/booster patience for sure plays a role on AD decisions.

Basically what you’re saying is you’ll support them if we win. What I’d remind you is it wasn’t my “job” to support you when you played either. But I did. I sat through a game where you got beat 66-7. I sat through a season in which your team was 1-10. I sat through a season where you lost the last 6-7 games of your career. You post a few days back “this team sucks”. Really? I drove to Normal, illinois and watched them bury you not once but twice. This team lost 12-10. Should’ve won? Yes. But we didn’t. As a booster and fan of the Coyotes I will support this team no matter what. Right now the Coyotes are wounded. No question. But if you think for one stinking minute this team doesn’t care you’re wrong. There are things I wished Coach Nielsen would change myself, but guess what? I’m not a coach. And I certainly haven’t won (2) national championships. Coach Nielsen has had more success in his career than most coaches. As much as I would like to say USD has been a traditional power, the fact remains we haven’t. In the last 66 years USD has won exactly (2) league championships in football. 1956 and 1978. That’s it. The late 60’s and early 70’s there were some teams that tied for titles. Bob was hired to start the tradition so many of us would like to see. He’s a proven winner. If it bears out that his heart is no longer in it, then a change should be made. His offense coordinator, a young man that quarterbacked his Duluth teams, it turns out has a sickness. He needs help and prayerfully I hope he gets it. But he put us in a position that I know of no other team in the country got put into. So Coach Nielsen now has to determine who’s going to call the offense. Apparently he felt like no one on staff could fill that role so rather than compromise a current staff member he put it on himself. It would’ve been easy to throw someone other than himself under the bus, but he didn’t. As a result, we went backwards. One thing leads to another, and here we are. Let’s be honest about the overall level of support football has. We have 9000 seats to sell. We are no where close to selling it out. 9000 frickin seats and we can’t get much over 5000. Howling Pack membership is declining. For those of you that have supported COYOTE FOOTBALL in the past by purchasing tickets and joining the Howling Pack, thank you. For those that don’t but just chime in to rip apart the current situation, I’m going to suggest you’re better than this. Our program is not awash in funds. Buying out a contact of a coach will never happen. What needs to happen is funding this program at the same level the top two teams in the league fund theirs and then hold him accountable. Sometimes bad years come with no logical explanation. I have to believe that’s the case now. Bob’s not perfect. He’s made some mistakes this year but he’s been put in one god awful situation. So in closing fightsd, I never will publically say my school sucks. And I will continue buying tickets and joining the HOWLING PACK. And I will continue supporting the COYOTE BROTHERHOOD that just finished raising over $125,000 . And lastly I will do whatever it takes to build us into a winning program that contends year after year. I’m telling you it can be done but switching coaches as often as we do is not the cure. Replace staff that needs replacing but retain staff that’s getting the job done. And lastly, fund the program, and all other programs for that matter that give our kids the best opportunity to excel. I love USD with all my heart. We can and we will win if we don’t panic.

Replace staff that needs replacing but retain staff that’s getting the job done. And lastly, fund the program, and all other programs for that matter that give our kids the best opportunity to excel. I love USD with all my heart. We can and we will win if we don’t panic. First of all, I think you're a little mistaken on what teams I played on. Secondly, I have never once come on here and posted anything even remotely close to comparing the teams I played on to the current state of the program. We were bad when I played there, I've never disputed that. We tried hard and had a lot of fun and I built relationships that I truly cherish. I also never made excuses for any criticism I or my teams received. As for my record on the forum, I have been equally as critical of the staff(s) I played for. Third, if any of this rant was implying that I don't put my money where my mouth is, you are wildly off base and have no knowledge of or business knowing the level at which I support the University. That's between me and my accountant. As for my comments about this team, I call them like I see them. This team does suck. I'm not taking personal shots at anybody and I'm sure they don't want to be in this situation either, but I don't have to sit and accept excuses. Yeah Bob was put in a bad situation with the OC deal, but this is year 7. Bob has had plenty of time to field a competitive team. Last year, I thought we were headed in the right direction, but here we are now. A "once in a blue moon" playoff appearance is not what I want to consider success for the program that I spend so much of my time and money supporting. Finally, we are all on the same team here and want the same things. If anybody has any misconceptions about me no longer supporting this program, that can be put to rest right now. I just believe in tough love when it's needed, and it's surely needed now.

With 3 games left it would be DUMB, STUPID, IRRATIONAL to fire anyone useless they've just given up and I hope none of the team, coaches or staff are thinking that way!! That solves nothing and actually would make things worse!
Does anyone really think this is the best option at this point in time? If so you're smoking something that isn't legal yet IMHO!!
Fans certainly have a right to their opinions, but everyone should be able to still have a little logic with those opinions.
I have been a Coyote since my freshman year in 1967 and will never change just because of a win loss record. I will recommend changes when needed and express opinions too, but my support will not waiver!!

I think there’s a lot of misinterpretations going on…. (Mostly due to this being a fan forum)
No one is ending their support for the Coyote athletics. But support/attendance/fundraising does wane due to losing records. It’s just how it works.
Why are we talking about this, it’s not like we make the call…. This is false. Do we have sole authority to pick up the phone and fire a coach? No (well maybe some boosters do, but most no). But we do influence herbsters decisions, if he senses a restless fan base he’s going to take that into consideration. I don’t think many are saying fire him on the spot today, but at the end of this season he needs to go, he’s had 6 full years + a Covid season for 7.
SDSU wasn’t a perennial powerhouse in football either and look at their success. I will compare us to them in this instance because like it our not they are who we’re fighting against for fans in this state and right now they’re winning.
I get it, Bob is a great guy and had success once. But he hasn’t had it here, and quite frankly there isn’t a tradition of it being built. If as fan base we’re content with that then why didn’t we give the dome a generic less costly makeover? Oh because we expect a winning product and what a place to showcase it.
Don’t sit here and say we can’t be like the XDSU’s and that we need to temper our expectations. SDSU was a bottom dweller in football before the transition to D1 and now they’re ranked #1 and competing for National championships while we fight to end the season 50/50.
If this post comes off harsh, I’m sorry. But I’m hearing a lot of “it is what it is USD just won’t be that so stop complaining” attitudes and that is unacceptable if we want to ever be known for something other than a Hail Mary play.

I think a lot of us are just sick of the same crap different year while we have to live around the other schools in the area enjoying success. Last season it was North Dakota in dumpster fire mode and their fan base went into a meltdown much like our fan base is right now. This season UND is in the hunt for playoff contention, NDSU is contending for the top of the conference (as usual), and SDSU is (barf) ranked #1.
I'm just sick of Coyote Football being below average. I seriously got PO'd when somebody said to me "well, the good thing is it is almost basketball season!" You know what? F that. That's part of the problem around here. No disrespect, but I don't give two craps about basketball season when we're in the middle of the football season.

BELOW since we keep comparing our program to the best of the best!! Should have been fired multiple times especially early in his career as well as in year #7 & #8 after the move to FCS, but was given the opportunity to build one of the best programs in the FCS and the best at this point in 2022. I'm sure he thanks God that his admin didn't listen to all the outside noise.
Like I stated in an earlier post, nightmare schedule, dealing with an OC disaster, a QB that was supposed to be ... but wasn't even close this year, etc... Many to none of us would still be employed in our jobs if we had to navigate all of this if we didn't have support from above.

Some parallels to be drawn there. That said, I'm still sick of it and frustrated by the lack of success. Every time I believe we are building and ready to take the next step we take 2 steps back.

We’ve only had 2 winning seasons in 10 years. You make a good point that they gave him time, but the scenarios were different. We’re not in a transition to a new conference or division like they were during that time. We brought in the reigning MVFC coach of the year for a reason and it wasn’t for a winning season every 3 years.

It's not like Coach Nielsen took over a juggernaut or a program on a major rise. It takes time to build and get the roster where it needs to be in the MVFC especially now with the transfer portal being so prevalent and hard to predict either way. PLUS, like I stated in an earlier, a combination of these things could not have been predicted prior to the 2022 season, so it has obviously stagnated any momentum gained from the 2021 season. A complete nightmare of a schedule, dealing with an OC disaster, a QB that was supposed to be ... but wasn't even close this year, etc...
