I'm seeing 5 and 5 in the polls. 3 (Montana) and 4 (Montana State) are playing in Missoula this week. Looks quite likely that if Montana wins that we should be accepted as 4th in the nation by the pollsters. A Montana State win would be less clear.
Of course the committee makes their own decision. There's a big difference between 4 and 5 though.

Montana State already has two FCS losses, a third loss should put them out of the Top 4 and USD in.

It felt like UNI was going to have a real case for a playoff seed had they won out. Now I wonder if NDSU can slide into that spot with a win at UNI. They are ranked 9th in both polls, which would translate to the 8 seed since Florida A&M doesn't do playoffs. Lord knows they have the name recognition to get a boost.

Still haven't got the football beads for my abacus, but assuming favorites all win this coming Saturday, my best guess on the seeds is as follows: #1 - SDSU #2 & 3 - Furman & winner of the Montana/Montana St game #4 - USD #5 - CAA champion #6 - Loser of Montana/Montana St game #7 & #8 - 2 of these 3 - NDSU (assuming they beat UNI), Idaho, CAA runner-up

NDSU as the 8-seed would be good for us, I think. Gets us in separate parts of the bracket for the first couple rounds. Although geography is a factor in the first couple rounds, the ban on intra-conference rematches only applies to round one, IIRC. So we could end up hosting a Valley team.

Yes, geography is a factor in the first couple rounds and they only limit intra-conference rematches in the first round. I had been expecting UNI to play SIU in the first round (as they haven't played this year) with winner going to Vermillion, but now that's hard to expect since they both lost last weekend. That could put NDSU into whatever game feeds into Vermillion unless they get boosted into a playoff seed. Geography is very annoying here. Give me some new blood. Stop making the best conference cannibalize itself.

Yes, go Bison. Get them to the 8 seed and in line for a rematch in Brookings in the quarterfinals. We might have UND in our bracket though, but you can’t avoid everybody.
