Ed is a blue collar coach. He will go to work and take the best job that is out there, despite the inevitable smear that any firing leaves on any coach, no matter what their record. His lack of ego and aversion to political positioning is actually an advantage to him being a success at any level. I wish him well.

In a weird and distorted way I can see what Coyote Fan is trying to point out. Coyote Fan is using this as validation that Ed wasn't good enough to warrant being an FCS level coach. I disagree. I think this Mesa job is below his coaching pedigree. I could see him taking a head D2 job in the MIAC or maybe the GLIAC, but I think he has earned his stripes as an FCS level head coach with some of the big wins he had at USD. The reality is that those positions aren't always open and you have to apply for the best opening available at the time. It's not like he had a multi-year contract still left to be paid on where he could sit back and wait for the right opportunity. He had to apply for the best jobs available right now. I do not think Ed has the resume to be hired into a D1 FCS position. He acquired it through transition. My point is exactly as Yote 53 mentions. How many people just this football season were saying it would be crazy for USD to fire Ed. That is definately vision through Coyote red goggles. If that were the case than he would have to be considered a very high level FCS coach. We will see if Meierkort lands a head coaching position at a FCS program within the next 3 years. Afterall if it would be crazy for USD to fire Ed than I would also have to believe that it would be crazy if he doesn't have FCS programs knocking at his door to get him to be their lead man. I am just simply holding people to what they said earlier this season.

Yeah, I guess beating an FBS school, albeit Minnesota, isn't a noteworthy thing, even though there are plenty of coaches for some pretty good programs who haven't been able to do it. Guess that's not a big thing for the resume.
I mean, you are always right, right coyotefan?

Meierkort going to Mesa State proves that the perception is much different outside USD than within. He is simply not a D1 FCS coach and as long as people want to debate the topic I will be happy to keep talking about it. But for those that are happy with 5-6 seasons, I guess there is really not much anyone can do about that. Maybe we should all just feel sorry for Ed and his near 6 figure salary he was receiving.

By the end, it was over 6 figures.
But perhaps its fitting.....Mesa has been average every year since a 6-5 season in 2008

Him going to Mesa State doesn't prove anything. He currently is unemployed and needs a job. He has a family to provide for and bills to pay. To use the fact that Mesa State is a lower level division to try and justify your point is idiotic. The reasoning you are employing is just simply not realistic. I know you try to create drama in order to get more people involved on this board but this is getting really old. ......(the sound of me stepping over the dead horse on the way out of the room)

Coyote Fan,
Back away from the grain alcohol. Ed did some good things and some bad. I heard him say he was hurt, but nothing bad about the U. WE all wanted better play and coaching, but nothing nothing nasty about the the team or staff. WE voiced or opinions good and bad. Right or wrong, WE try not to make it personal.
YOU seem to have a personal bug about Ed, even after you got what YOU wanted. Have you forgotten he's gone? Did he ignore you at a meet and greet? Did he kick your little dog? YOU are all that is USD. Why do you care where he goes or why? Isn't time for you to start hatin' on Joe?
Good Luck to Ed wherevever he lands
I'm praying for Joe, he's going to need it

Looks like Colorado Mesa went another direction with their HC Position.
Let's hope his spirit is still up and that he lands on his feet soon. I look forward to the day that someone gives him a chance to revitalize a program like he did to ours.

I wonder if salary requirements was a factor. Seems like an veteran OC would work for less than say a former HC. Here is the link: cmumavericks.com/news/2012/1/15/FB_0115121900.aspx

As of today, no updates. He's still looking for any openings. Might be a little late now for 2012, unless something opens up quick

On that note, the Arkansas State defensive coordinator position opened up...not saying he is up for it, but there are still coordinator positions out there I guess.
